This is where you come in, to join our Leadership Team as Head of Securities Finance, based in London or NYC/Boston.
This role will have full responsibility for our Securities Finance domain at Tonic, including but not limited to:
- Building our Sec Fin services, with expertise-led service offerings that meet our clients’ evolving needs, supported by thorough industry research (20%)
- Leading our Sec Fin business development and relationship managements (30%)
- Performing high-quality delivery engagements, typically in an advisory capacity (40%)
- Building our expertise-led Sec Fin team (10%)
You will also play an integral role in the definition of future company strategy and direction, ensuring that we build out our internal capabilities in line.
You will collaborate closely with the Tonic Co-Founders, other Domain Heads, Head of Client Management, Head of Americas and the rest of the Tonic team.
Head of Securities Finance – Key Responsibilities
The Tonic Head of Securities Finance will have multiple key responsibilities, described in more detail below.
1. Build Our Sec Fin Service Suite
Industry Research
- Continual market research across key Sec Finance domains and focus areas, covering Repo and Securities Lending, that will drive our clients’ service needs
- Key focus areas include, but are not limited to, regulations (x-jurisdictional), market developments and events, market vendors, best practice frameworks, and differences in buy-side vs sell-side focus areas
- Industry outreach including attendance at key industry forums and working groups e.g. ISLA, ICMA, contribution to industry journal websites and events, and ongoing collaboration with Tonic clients (existing and target) and vendors
Tonic Service Definition & Content
- Definition of Tonic Sec Finance service proposals, in line with client needs identified within industry research
- Creation of Tonic service decks, thought leadership, website content, and LinkedIn content
- Representation of Tonic on industry event panels, webinars and podcasts
2. Lead our Sec Fin Business Development
- Leveraging of industry network for initial and ongoing sales opportunities
- Identification of Tonic sales targets, across firms, divisions and individuals
- Ongoing relationship management for stakeholders within existing and target clients
- Lead service proposals and bids for new work
- Contribute towards creation of Client Statements of Work for contracted services
Build Partner Relationships
- Upfront and ongoing identification of vendors within the Sec Finance domain (Trading, Post-Trade, Custodians, Optimization & Analytics, Digital, Legal, etc)
- Relationship generation and building with target vendors, to establish sales referrals and joint opportunities
Raise Tonic Industry Profile
- Raising the profile of Tonic’s Sec Fin practice, via:
- Identification and attendance at key industry events
- Identification of Tonic speaking opportunities i.e. industry panels, webinars, podcasts
3. Perform High-Quality Delivery
- Perform billable client delivery engagements, as Senior Tonic SME
- Creation of high-quality deliverables within Advisory client engagements including but not limited to:
- Industry benchmarking
- Industry surveys
- Training materials
- Client content materials e.g. sales & marketing, product guides, service onboarding guides
- Health Checks (accelerated current state analysis & recommendations)
- Perform quality assurance reviews of artefacts produced by other Tonic team members, to ensure Tonic’s high-quality standards are met
4. Build our Sec Fin Team
Recruitment
- Identify Tonic resource needs for service proposals and client opportunities
- Contribute to Tonic job specifications, alongside Talent Lead
- Take an active role in recruiting new consultants
Team Management
- Build a motivated and energetic Sec Fin team to perform high-quality delivery engagements, in line with client service needs, via:
- Management of growing pool of Tonic Sec Fin consultants
- Overseeing Sec Fin team performance, including appraisals, performance reviews and development
Training & Development
- Lead the ongoing development and growth of Tonic’s Sec Fin capabilities, via upskilling the of the wider Tonic team’s expertise and knowledge.
- Assess Tonic Sec Fin training needs and define Tonic Sec Fin training strategy
- Create and present Sec Fin training frameworks across key sub-domains
Additional Tasks
Any additional duties as they arise as part of company growth, to be agreed on an ad-hoc basis.
Required Skills & Experience
Domain
- 20+ years’ dedicated experience within the Financial Services industry
- 15+ years dedicated experience within the Securities Finance domain, across Repo and Securities Lending. Considered to be a Sec Fin SME/industry leader
- Experience across a variety of different firms, including sell-side and buy-side (administrator experience is a plus)
Content
- Able to produce high-quality content and artefacts across:
- Tonic services
- Thought leadership
- Training materials
- Client content materials e.g. sales & marketing, product guides, service onboarding guides
- Project documentation i.e. project plans, status updates, materials to accompany key stakeholder decisions
- Previous direct experience working in a sales and/or relationship management capacity
Transformation
- 5+ years dedicated experience within transformation, leading and supporting major change programs for technology/data infrastructure and solutions
- Proven business transformation specialist with experience of working in multiple transformation roles
- Experience of rolling out best practice delivery frameworks across multiple organisations
General
- Confident and strong communicator, with all levels and types of stakeholders
- Ability to simultaneously work on multiple projects
- Ability to diagnose potential problems quickly and define suitable solutions
- Team leadership, management, and delegation skills
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
- Strong Microsoft Office application skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, MS Project and/or equivalent planning tools)
- Direct consultancy experience, ideally within a big 4 firm
- Experience working within a smaller, growing organisation
Qualifications
- A first level university degree, 2:1 (or equivalent)
- Relevant financial and transformation qualifications
