The Medical Director for Veterinary Technology is at the forefront of academic excellence, seamlessly blending medical precision with innovative education. This pivotal role ensures that every facet of the program's curriculum meets the highest standards of medical accuracy and relevance. As a cornerstone of the educational team, the Medical Director not only guides the program's academic integrity but also actively engages in course delivery and evaluates student competencies. With a unique responsibility to facilitate dynamic classroom learning through multi-modal instruction, the Director orchestrates hands-on laboratories involving live patients, ensuring that each session is led with expert care and professionalism, whether by the Director themselves or a qualified licensed professional. This dedication to educational and medical rigor shapes the future of veterinary technology, inspiring students to achieve excellence in their field.


The Medical Director for Veterinary Technology will perform general surgeries and teach various courses involving veterinary medicine theory, laboratory, and clinical curriculum. This role provides leadership within the Veterinary Technology Program in coordination with the Program Director, offering direction for all medical decisions and establishing medical protocols for the program. The Medical Director oversees the administration of medical procedures, the maintenance of medical records and the computer database, and the controlled substance log. Additionally, the director assists the Program Director in ensuring a "students first" quality program delivery. The director collaborates using connections to acquire new clinical sites for student learning and externships. The role also involves participating in the accreditation process, serving on the advisory board, developing and maintaining the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) and all associated records, and working with the lab coordinator to ensure all safety and educational standards are met in labs. Engaging in scholarly activities, such as authoring publications, serving as an invited lecturer, and securing and utilizing internal and external grants, is also expected. Additionally, the director pursues continuing education opportunities as required to maintain credentials.


The successful candidate will believe in and support the student first philosophy while contributing to the overall success of Baker College, and acting as a positive role model and brand ambassador on and off campus. Establishing robust external relationships to bolster Baker College's vision and mission will also be a key responsibility.
