Job Summary

The VP Ops & Supply Chain will work alongside the President to transform the company into a best-in-class manufacturing organization. The VP Ops & Supply Chain will inspire and lead cultural and operational change throughout the company. The VP Ops & Supply Chain has ultimate accountability and responsibility for manufacturing operations across our global sites. The VP Ops & Supply Chain will be a member of the executive leadership team and will lead a team of professionals across operations; supply chain, planning, materials, and manufacturing engineering, to meet the expectations of our customers, employees, and owners.

The VP Ops & Supply Chain will partner with the executive leadership team to translate our business plan and strategies into operational targets and development plans, executing against these and meeting our committed KBI’s, KPI’s, and defined output targets. This individual is also responsible for working cross-functionally to deliver employee and community engagement activities, ensuring a world-class work environment and an employer of choice.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic and tactical leadership for the company’s global manufacturing, supply chain, materials, and manufacturing engineering departments.
  • Build, inspire, lead, and mentor a world-class operations leadership team.
  • Establish the vision and lead company-wide initiatives, driving effective and efficient management of manufacturing, supply chain, and materials.
  • As a member of the company’s executive team, deliver year-over-year sustainable profit growth with other Executives, develop the company strategy, including leading the development of the Ops strategy.
  • Lead LEAN implementation throughout the company; assume the role as LEAN champion.
  • Develop plans for, and execute, integration of new acquisitions; participate in due diligence activities.
  • Achieve company’s goals for On Time Delivery, Quality, and Cost.
  • Develop and execute the capital equipment plan including identifying investments, building business cases, obtaining approval, and implementing the new equipment.
  • Lead manufacturing operations, including a team of salaried professionals and engineers, and 80-120 hourly employees.
  • Develop our operations teams and individuals to meet the needs of the organization and the aspirations of our talented team members.
  • Work closely with the executive leadership team on aligning operational strategies and targets with our business plan and provide regular input into our business development plans.
  • Monitor our business health and adjust operations/performance through metrics. Accountable for key operational metrics throughout each layer of the Operations Team including Delivery, Cost, and Engagement.
  • Ensure our customers’ expectations are translated through the levels of operations by way of cascading goals, metrics, and clear accountability for exceeding quality and delivery expectations.
  • Working with Supply Chain and Quality leadership to deliver our operational strategies and improvement projects, aligned with our 5-year business plan activities.
  • Develop and drive GM and Overhead improvements year over year through capital projects and continuous improvement plans.
  • Lead operations function in possible future integration of acquisition(s) into the organization’s culture, ways of working, business, and production processes.
  • Ensure operations fulfill its duties in new product launches, integrating any new processes and products into daily operations with the production and manufacturing engineering team.
  • Key contributor and team member engaged in global footprint evaluation, analyzing and proposing improvements to our global operations through rationalization of footprint and streamlining of material flow globally.
  • Build relationships cross-functionally, developing a deep understanding of other functions and business drivers – collaborating with peers to create awareness and extend understanding of operations agenda while also translating to ops function other cross-functional partner team drivers and agendas to create, impact, and lead a more cohesive culture – as operations is a driving heartbeat of the organization.
  • Partnering with the Director of Quality, ensure facility and grounds are kept at a world-class level, providing an engaging work environment resulting as an employer of choice in the area.

Required Skills and Attributes

  • Relentless drive to serve the customer. Can articulate how they have used operations to provide leading edge customer service; and, has a vision for how they will do so over the next decade.
  • 10 to 12 years business experience including familiarity with multi-site international operations.
  • Has worked in and created automated, digitized operations environments; has implemented robotics and automated data collection and communication systems.
  • Demonstrated success using metrics and data-driven decision making to improve operations, drive down cost, increase productivity, and justify capital spending.
  • 5 to 7 years direct and progressive leadership experience; demonstrated success in building, inspiring, and developing world-class teams.
  • Places extremely high value on being part of a team and competing to see the team succeed. Can switch between the roles of a team leader and team member seamlessly.
  • Has worked in regulated environments (ISO, FDA) or similar highly process, data, and documentation driven environments.
  • Must have a record of leading, motivating, and inspiring direct reports, and have the ability to lead through example and influence throughout an organization.
  • Must be able to communicate and build relationships across functions, and at all levels of the organization with confidence and authority.
  • Experience developing and coordinating cross-functional teams, both through direct and indirect leadership.
  • Sound knowledge of supply chain and manufacturing processes including demand forecasting/planning, capacity planning, lean manufacturing, 5S, and Value Stream Mapping.
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills with the ability to reason and influence at all levels.
  • Problem solving and analysis skills, making decisions quickly to improve performance.
  • Ability to champion change and effectively manage the implementation of new ideas.
  • Ability to set and review measurable and attainable goals to support staff development.
  • Create, review, analyze, document, and implement guidelines, standards, and procedures as part of continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ability to manage complexity and resolve conflicts that arise from balancing multiple priorities.
  • Proficient in MS office applications.
  • Desire and drive to improve business processes every day.
  • Daily use and knowledge of MRP / ERP systems, Epicor a plus.
  • Acquisition and merger integration planning and experience a plus.
  • Minimum bachelor degree in engineering, scientific or technical discipline.
  • Problem solver; risk taker and intellectually curious.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required.
  • 10+ years of production/manufacturing/operations management.
  • Lean certification or training preferred.
