Walla Walla University seeks an experienced, visionary leader to serve as the director of libraries for Walla Walla University Libraries. This individual will be responsible for vision and strategic leadership in line with student needs, library best practices, resource availability, university mission, and strategic goals. The Director of Libraries is responsible to the Vice President for Academic Administration and will oversee all operational functions of the Walla Walla University Libraries. The successful candidate will advocate for the library, considering the current and future needs of university students as well as campus strategic goals to position Peterson Memorial Library, along with branch libraries in Portland and Billings, to support excellence in thought and student success across the curriculum. The Director of Libraries also serves as a tenured professional librarian with faculty status and professional librarian responsibilities.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Master’s Degree in Library/Information Science from an American Library Association accredited program. Required
  • Preferred minimum of five years progressively responsible professional librarianship and managerial experience in an academic library environment. Preference given to candidates with experience at smaller institutions in roles with dual demands.
  • Additional master's degree or doctoral degree in an appropriate subject helpful.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to adapt to current trends and issues in academic libraries including emerging technologies, information literacy, and library services to support student academic success.
  • Dedication to professional growth and development, with a commitment to staying current with best practices and innovations in the field.
  • Strong communication skills to develop and maintain good working relationships with subordinates, colleagues, administration, and regional professional organization and consortia.
  • Ability to support successful library services by setting priorities in budget and library personnel capacity to best meet the needs of diverse stakeholders, internal and external.
  • Ability to develop and administer budgets effectively.
