The Role

As part of the Network and Security ENG and DEV organization, the Director of SASE ENG will help Lumen move beyond traditional SD-WAN offers and focus more on SASE services delivered via a combination of vendor hosted, cloud hosted, and internally hosted architectures. This position will push the boundaries to allow Lumen Customers to scale across multiple best of breed SASE vendors with an eye towards developing solutions that are easily automated via sister organizations.

This position will provide leadership and direct contribution towards the delivery and implementation of new SASE features and technologies. In leading this team, responsibilities will include analyzing requirements, design/test solutions, and deployment of solutions into production. This position will require the ability to undertake multiple highly complex SASE projects which may require coordination across multiple business units. This position will be focused on the infrastructure, applications and support systems required to operate a large scale global SASE product.

The Main Responsibilities

  1. Proven experience in providing technical leadership within an organization focused on delivering features and products on a Global scale.
  2. Strong background managing a team of senior engineers.
  3. Position requires extensive knowledge in deploying and operating customer focused solutions in large scale networks.
  4. Strong understanding of SD-WAN or larger SASE services a plus.
  5. Developing and maintains quarterly roadmaps showing in progress and backlog activities that align to Strategic Roadmaps and Target Architectures.
  6. Developing solutions that provide secure and scalable APIs to north/southbound systems.
  7. Experience in design and implementation of an environment supporting virtual machines and containers.
  8. Ability to analyze Product and Architecture inputs to develop technical requirements to support design and development efforts.
  9. Define, document, and communicate standards for managing production.
  10. Define, document, and communicate up to date designs representative of the production network.
  11. Ensuring alignment of assigned projects with agreed upon.
  12. Providing peer review on architecture and designs developed to support projects not directly assigned to ensure alignment with overall direction.
  13. Engaging in the forward-looking planning and decision-making process to ensure the products are in a continuous improvement cycle to support the business strategy.

What We Look For in a Candidate

  1. Bachelor's degree or equivalent education and relevant experience.
  2. 15+ years related technical experience; with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  3. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  4. Ability to stay organized and keep multiple priorities on target.
  5. Self-motivated with a consistent drive towards results.
  6. Strong understanding of development methodologies such as Agile and SCRUM.
  7. Familiarity with SD-WAN/SASE services.
  8. Familiarity with OpenAPI specifications (Swagger).
  9. Familiarity with cloud providers such as AWS and Azure and related services such as Kubernetes, Docker, and Terraform.
  10. Tools: Git, JIRA, Confluence, Office, Teams, Postman.

Compensation

The starting salary for this role differs based on the employee's primary work location. Employees typically do not start at the top of the range, though compensation depends on each individual's qualifications.

Location Based Pay Ranges

$128,310 - $171,080 in these states: AR, ID, KY, LA, ME, MS, NE, SC, and SD.

$135,060 - $180,080 in these states: AZ, AL, FL, GA, IN, IA, KS, MO, MT, NM, ND, OH, OK, PA, TN, UT, VT, WV, WI, and WY.

$141,820 - $189,090 in these states: CO, HI, MI, MN, NV, NH, NC, OR, and RI.

$148,570 - $198,090 in these states: AK, CA, CT, DE, DC, IL, MD, MA, NJ, NY, TX, VA, and WA.

As with the pay range variety that's based on the region of a country, specific offers are determined by various factors such as experience, education, skills, certifications and other business needs.
