Job Requirements / Description

The Special Education Resource Room teacher will develop and implement evidence-based instructional, communication and behavioral support for students in collaboration with related service providers per the Individual Education Program (IEP). They will function as case managers and ensure compliant individualized education, while supporting the vision and mission of Utica Community Schools by demonstrating a commitment to academic excellence.
Reports To: Building Administrator
Qualifications:

  • Must possess a bachelor's or graduate degree in special education
  • Must hold a valid Michigan teaching certificate
  • Endorsements sought: K-12 SA, SE, SM or SV
  • Additional Endorsements preferred: EX or BA/BX
Description:
  • Collaborate and consult with teachers, related services providers, parents and administration.
  • Evaluate and implement strategies and interventions for students with disabilities to develop and promote skills and behaviors necessary for social, behavioral and academic success.
  • Coordinate support for students mainstreamed into the general education curriculum.
  • Analyze data to plan individual instructional interventions and positive behavior support plans.
  • Maintain compliance per IDEA and Michigan Administrative Rules for Special Education (MARSE) including the MET/IEP process, timelines, and eligibility criteria.
  • Determine targeted goals and monitor student progress.
  • Instruct students on the proper use of technology, materials, and equipment.
  • Manage all activities of the assigned paraprofessionals providing services for students.
  • Position may require travel to support multiple building sites.
