About the Role:

We're on the hunt for a dedicated Patent Agent with a degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, computer science , or a related field to join our client's IP Prosecution team . Based in Boston or Washington, DC , this role involves supporting partners in drafting and prosecuting patent applications, conducting freedom to operate studies, and analyzing patents. Your Mission:

  • Assess scientific literature , patents, and patent applications in areas such as mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and computer science .
  • Conduct comprehensive searches for relevant scientific articles, patents, and patent application documents .
  • Compose patent applications , including a background of the invention, critical features, and claims that distinctly define the invention.
  • Draft responses to patent rejections from the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and other global patent offices.
  • Conduct clearance studies to ensure clients' products are free of competitor patent issues.
  • Collaborate with team members and clients to protect innovative technologies and build robust IP portfolios .

Core Competencies:

  • Technical Expertise : Strong understanding of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and computer science to assess and critique scientific data and inventions.
  • Patent Prosecution Skills : Experience in drafting and prosecuting patent applications and preparing responses to patent office rejections.
  • Clearance & Due Diligence : Ability to conduct clearance studies and ensure products comply with relevant patents.
  • Communication & Collaboration : Ability to explain complex scientific concepts to both scientific and non-scientific audiences and work effectively within a team.

What You Bring:

  • Degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, computer science , or a related field.
  • Ability to present scientific concepts, analysis, and conclusions to a variety of audiences.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to prioritize competing responsibilities .
  • Proven ability to collaborate and work effectively in team settings .
