Overview

E2 is seeking mid-level leadership to facilitate the growth within our Utilities East division as it relates to our Engineering capabilities surrounding liquids and natural gas pipelines and related facilities. The Team Lead of Engineering & Design is first and foremost a consultant and is expected to inject best practices, facilitating positive change in an industry that is evolving due to ongoing regulatory changes. The successful candidate will report to the Vice President of Utilities East and will be responsible for supporting the overall mission in meeting client expectations, assessing and maintaining quality of service, developing and mentoring staff, and seeking new business opportunities. This role presents good exposure to E2 and Client leadership and provides upward career trajectory for those that demonstrate exceptional leadership and delivery skills.

Responsibilities

  • Be the Point of Contact to the Client: Field all work requests; Set proper delivery expectations; Develop quotes; Being aware of E2's service suite and how that may facilitate Client needs; Market new services when aligned with a client need; Meet regularly with Client sponsor(s) to gather feedback on team performance.
  • Provide experienced Engineering/Project Management leadership for utilities-related Client projects.
  • Candidate preferably has experience with pipeline engineering and related facilities; can pivot to individual contributor duties, such as producing design drawings and calculations.
  • Demonstrate successful Client management by being responsive to Client requests and meeting with Client on short notice to discuss needs, upcoming projects, emergencies, and new business opportunities - this may involve traveling on short notice to reach Client location.
  • Lead team meetings to assure that project objectives are delivered safely on time, on budget, and according to industry and client standards.
  • Set proper expectations with the Client on deliverables and communicate changes promptly and thoroughly.
  • Manage team resources to minimize non-billable time/overhead costs.
  • Willing and able to step into a billable role when needed to facilitate peak-shaving in times of heavy demand or short turnaround requests.
  • Expected to be an individual contributor, performing Engineering & Design duties on Liquids and/or Natural Gas projects, such as:
    • Planning and designing all aspects of natural gas distribution and transmission projects and/or liquid pipeline projects.
    • Performing field visits to the existing or proposed site during the design phase for field notes and measurements.
    • Completing preliminary and final designs.
    • Performing pipe stress analysis, HDD designs.
    • Producing construction drawing packages.
    • Performing QA/QC of all work.
    • Performing MAOP Revalidation activities.
    • Vetting, aligning, and coordinating subcontractors and vendors.
  • Assess team needs based on Client requests and facilitate on-boarding process for new talent - create job descriptions that fit Client needs, vet job applications and resumes, interview candidates, on-board personnel.
  • Attend ongoing project meetings with Client.
  • Share responsibility for the operations growth of the division.
  • Ensure Client receives the highest levels of service.
  • Effectively on-board, develop, lead, and mentor staff.
  • Responsible for making fiscally responsible decisions to ensure P&L performance metrics are being met and/or exceeded.
  • Maintain a solution-oriented delivery model while being responsive to the Client and E2 Leadership.
  • Maintain strong Client and key partner relationships and develop new relationships.
  • Ensure the successful implementation of operational and strategic plans.
  • Build strategic alliances and partnerships within the organization to collaboratively execute business strategies.
  • Create an environment in which processes are designed to ensure customer satisfaction; effectively incorporate customer perspectives in all business activities.
  • Participate in Client presentations, sales visits, and broker promotional events as needed to explain company vision and service offerings.
  • Review daily activity reports and financial statements to determine progress and status in attaining Divisional objectives and revise objectives and plans in accordance with current conditions.
  • Ensure implementation of proper quality control programs.
  • Champion strategic and analytical approaches to problems, using a combination of experience and data to arrive at the optimal solution for your team and/or for the Client.
  • Conduct presentations to staff and/or Client as needed.
  • Oversee preparation of data, information, reporting for team and/or Client.
  • Review and approve team's time entry in such a way that creates a smooth and seamless billing approval process.

Other related tasks as appropriate to maximize Client satisfaction, team morale.

Qualifications

  • B.S./B.A. degree in Engineering, Construction, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in Engineering, Construction, or Project Management in the Natural Gas Pipeline space.
  • 5+ years of experience in the Utilities industry, preferably Natural Gas Utility.
  • Thorough understanding of Project Management and/or Project Controls practices and techniques.
  • Thorough understanding of Utility Engineering and Design practices and methodologies.
  • Thorough understanding of industry and government codes and standards including ASME B31.1, B31.3, B31.4, B31.8, B31.12, CFR 49 Part 192, CFR 49 Part 193, CFR 49 Part 195, ASCE 7.
  • Thorough understanding of recent regulatory changes in the industry, for example, the Mega Rule and its impact to Transmission and Distribution systems.
  • Thorough understanding of Pipeline Integrity principles.
  • Understanding of Cathodic Protection systems and other Corrosion Protection elements.
  • Understanding of emerging technologies, including energy efficiency, renewables, carbon capture, emission reduction, etc.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite of software and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be detail-oriented and highly organized.
  • Using sound judgment to make correct decisions in absence of leadership based on training.
  • Active listening and ability to communicate across different departments within E2.
  • Strong interpersonal and proactive problem-solving skills.
  • Critical Thinking - Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.

  • Critical Writing skills to clearly articulate a problem statement, directive, or expectation in written correspondences.
  • Willing to work various shifts or odd hours of the day in response to an urgent request or hard deadline.
  • Willing to assume other responsibilities as needed by E2 or the Client.
  • Active PE License required.

Qualifications and Experience (preferred)

  • PMP and/or CCM certification preferred.
  • Master's Degree in Engineering, Project Management, Business, or related field preferred.
  • Experience with liquid pipelines a plus.
  • Experience reading and/or executing contracts.
  • Experience participating in sourcing events and building proposals/quotes.
  • Participated in process improvement / process excellence efforts.
  • Experience working with unions and understanding of prevailing wages.
  • Thrives in complex, fast-paced environments.
  • Public speaking skills, both in delivering a proposed solution to a problem statement or marketing services and/or products for a company.
