Centennial Water and Sanitation District is seeking applicants for the Collections & Distribution Lines Technician position. Under direct supervision, this position performs a variety of specialized maintenance functions primarily related to the water distribution and wastewater collection systems for the operation, construction, repair, maintenance and replacement of the districts water and sewer lines, facilities and infrastructure. The technician performs skilled and semi-skilled level work and is required to be part of the Lines team on-call rotation and may be required to respond while not being on-call to assist with emergencies.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Performs inspections, preventative and corrective maintenance on the district's water distribution and wastewater collection equipment and facilities including repairs and replaces broken pipes, valves, hydrants, PRVs, curb stops, and other system appurtenances that may require working in a ditch, mud, and confined spaces.
  • Perform minor and major repairs to the collection and distribution system under emergency conditions (i.e. sewer backups, water main breaks, water service leaks, etc.)
  • Effectively and efficiently use sewer combination jet trucks along with CCTV truck to clean and maintain the collection system.
  • Performs utility locates of the district's water and wastewater facilities.
  • Enters and exits confined spaces such as underground vaults and manholes.
  • Work safely while in and around roadways with moving traffic. Ability to set up and take down traffic control devices. To include working near or around heavy equipment.
  • Loads, unloads, and transports equipment and personnel in District vehicles to a variety of work sites. Safely operate District utility trucks, one ton, dump trucks, vacuum trucks and heavy equipment
  • Responsible for all tools, equipment, and vehicles assigned or used.
  • Provides water quality monitoring and reporting system as required.
  • Performs work in accordance with safety policies and procedures.
  • Coordinates activities with other divisions and sections to avoid interruption of service.
  • Provide quality customer service and routinely interact with the public and the district's customers to resolve customer concerns.
  • Provides other Operations staff and management detailed updates on the status of customer service calls using e-mails and text messages.
  • Maintains written activity reports, inspection reports, and other records daily.
  • Responds to emergency callouts.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent is required.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License with an acceptable Motor Vehicle record.
  • Availability to work non-scheduled hours when necessary.
  • Must be able to respond to the District Facilities within approximately 30 minutes while on-call.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
  • Knowledge in working with Microsoft Office Suite; Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Knowledge of City works and GIS software.
  • One year of experience in collection and distribution maintenance.
  • Required to have the Colorado Class 1 Distribution Operator and Colorado Class 1 Collection Operator.
  • Heavy equipment/backhoe operator experience a plus.
JOB LEVELS FOR C&D SYSTEM/LINES MECHANIC
Collection & Distribution Lines Technician I (Pay is up to $30.49)
  • One year experience in collection and distribution maintenance or other relevant experience.
  • Required to have the Colorado Class 1 Distribution Operator and Colorado Class 1 Collection Operator.
  • Holds a Class A CDL or will obtain within two years of date of hire.
Collection & Distribution Lines Technician II (Pay is up to $33.61)
  • Two years' experience in collection and distribution maintenance.
  • Required to have the Colorado Class 2 Distribution Operator and Colorado Class 2 Collection Operator
  • Holds a Class A CDL or will obtain within two years of date of hire.
Collection & Distribution Lines Technician III (Pay is up to $37.06)
  • Three years' experience in collection and distribution maintenance.
  • Required to have the Colorado Class 3 Distribution Operator and Colorado Class 3 Collection
  • Holds a Class A CDL or will obtain within two years of date of hire.
Collection & Distribution Lines Technician IV (Pay is up to $40.86)
  • Four years' experience in collection and distribution maintenance.
  • Required to have the Colorado Class 4 Distribution Operator and Colorado Class 4 Collection
  • Certified as a competent person by the District within six months of employment
  • Holds a Class A CDL or will obtain within two years of date of hire.
Endorsements Available at 5% increases
  • Backhoe endorsement allows the employee to advance to the next pay grade.
  • Hazmat and endorsement allow the employee to advance to the next pay grade.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Works under the supervision of the Collections & Distributions Lead.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
May at times, direct and review the work of other system mechanics, utility workers and temporary staff as assigned. Dependent upon qualifications and scope of work.
WORK SCHEDULE
This position works a 4-day - 10-hour schedule between the hours of 6:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. The work schedule will vary depending on weather conditions, projects, events, programs, meetings, and staffing levels, and will include some evening, early morning, weekend, and overtime hours.
The employee must be able to be on 24-hour on-call rotation.
Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of the job.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Strenuous physical activity under adverse conditions will be required. Must possess the ability to lift items up to 80 pounds or more. Must wear personal protective equipment (PPE) to protect health and welfare during work activities.
Requires standing, walking, stooping/bending, lifting, crawling, climbing, and repetitive motion. Frequently exposed to insects and other animals such as snakes.
Required to work in all weather conditions and in extreme temperatures below twenty degrees to above a hundred degrees Fahrenheit. Perform under hazardous and adverse conditions, including but not limited to, slippery and uneven surfaces, proximity to moving mechanical equipment, broken glass and other materials, vibration, electrical currents, high places, precarious places, and confined spaces.
Work may result in exposure to smoke, gases, chemicals, fumes, odors, mist, dusts, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals that can affect the respiratory system, skin, or other aspects of the body. Work may result in exposure to wastewater and untreated water supplies containing infectious disease agents such as bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites. Work may result in exposure to high noise levels requiring the wearing of personal protection equipment. Frequently exposed to wet and humid conditions.
This position demands frequent use of sensory activities such as talking, hearing, smelling, identify objects by touch, and specific vision abilities, including but not limited to, close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vison, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. This position will involve periods of high physical, mental and emotional stress.
