Sevee & Maher Engineers, Inc. (SME) has a new full-time position for a Civil/Environmental Engineer (Entry Level) at our headquarters in Cumberland, Maine .


Position Summary

The Civil/Environmental Engineer , who reports to a project manager, participates in a diverse and dynamic portfolio of projects varying in size from residential development, commercial, and medical buildings, to solar array installations and large industrial complexes. Many of our projects involve innovative designs for environmentally sensitive areas. 


Your Impact

Because there is no “typical” project at SME, the Civil/Environmental Engineer has an exceptional opportunity to work on a wide variety of assignments for buildings, roadways, stormwater systems, solar power arrays, water and sewerage systems, and solid waste facilities. Other environmental projects may include remediation engineering support, mine and/or borrow pit permitting and design, and hydrogeologic investigations.


As an SME Civil/Environmental Engineer you will  be responsible for:

  • Engineering and design
  • Preparing technical reports and detailed design plans and specifications
  • Permitting, document preparation, and public presentations, and
  • Monitoring or managing construction projects


as well as:

  • Maintaining a high level of organizational skills to keep tasks on schedule, and
  • Being an integral team member and problem solver who is adept at developing practical, cost-effective solutions that serve our clients well.


Because the Civil/Environmental Engineer works closely with SME’s multidisciplinary staff and frequently interacts directly with clients, regulatory agencies, and the public, your strong interpersonal and communications skills (written and verbal)  are important. Required Skills and Qualifications

  • B.S. or M.S. degree in Civil, Environmental, or Geotechnical Engineering
  • Civil/environmental engineering intern or course experience in related fields is a plus
  • Experience in AutoCAD and stormwater modeling software experience is helpful, and
  • Effective oral and written communication skills are essential.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Competitive pay with up to $3,000 signing bonus
  • Compensation for billable hours exceeding 40 per week
