The School of Nursing has an outstanding opportunity for an Assistant Director of Clinical Placements to join their team.

The University of Washington School of Nursing (UWSoN) is a national leader in nursing education, research, and practice. Under the guidance of the Executive Director of Academic & Clinical Services, the Assistant Director of the Office of Clinical Placements (OCP) supports operations, facilitation of clinical placements in coordination with UW faculty and preceptors, supervision of the clinical placements team, and assurance of all regulatory compliance practices.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Operations 40%:

  • Engage in strategic advocacy, planning, and coordination to ensure that undergraduate and graduate student clinical placements meet required experiences and enable students to achieve the expected student learning outcomes.
  • Advocate for School of Nursing clinical placements with internal and external stakeholders, including clinical placement consortia, UW Medicine, and other clinical partners.
  • Work cross-functionally with school faculty, leadership, and the clinical placement team to build capacity for undergraduate and graduate student clinical learning opportunities.
  • In coordination with the Executive Director of Academic & Clinical Services, develop and implement processes for the Office of Clinical Placements.
  • Serve on and work with the Quality Improvement Team to develop and execute a systematic evaluation plan for undergraduate and graduate clinical placements.
  • Ensure that clear policies and/or practices are in place, pertaining to the Exxat clinical placement software.
  • Supervise communications with students regarding clinical placement requirements and needs.
  • Share the communication and tracking of clinical placement requirements with Executive Director of Academic & Clinical Services, program directors, track leads, and UWSoN leadership as needed.
  • Oversee policies, procedures, database tracking, and execution of undergraduate and graduate clinical placements to ensure compliance with all regulations.
  • Maintain adherence to clinical placement onboarding program, including fit-testing and distributing PPE (as applicable) for undergraduate and graduate students and faculty.
  • Work in coordination with Executive Director of Academic & Clinical Services to collaborate with Student and Academic Affairs units, program directors, and faculty to communicate with students about clinical credentialing and onboarding requirements.
  • In coordination with Executive Director of Academic & Clinical Services, oversee and improve upon clinical contracting processes.
  • Develop and execute systematic evaluation and routine review of each clinical placement (site and preceptor).
  • Integrate the clinical placement contract process into broader clinical placement database for reporting and tracking data.
  • Identify and initiate the development, and execution of remote clinical placement contracts, as needed.

Supervision 35%:

  • Oversee School of Nursing Office of Clinical Placements staff, including, but not limited to, two Graduate Clinical Placement Coordinators, two Undergraduate Clinical Education Specialists, and one Student Compliance Coordinator.
  • Maintain the Office of Clinical Placements organizational structure and staffing.
  • Responsible for oversight of day-to-day activities of staff.
  • Provide training, assign work, and follow up to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and completion.
  • Provide vision, leadership, and direction for staff development and motivation.

Husky Preceptor Program 15%:

  • Implement and maintain a successful Husky Preceptor Program.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to funnel all preceptor activities into the Husky Preceptor Program.
  • Cultivate and maintain preceptor relationships via frequent contact and personal presence on external committees and meetings.

Assessment and Evaluation 5%:

  • Ensure that clinical placement and onboarding communications are succinct, accurate and professionally communicated to faculty, students, and external stakeholders.
  • Work in conjunction with the Executive Director of Academic & Clinical Services to develop, implement, and evaluate clinical placement staffing plans.
  • Collaborate with appropriate individuals in an effort to provide continuous quality assurance assessment.

Miscellaneous 5%:

  • Execute with clear, effective, and open communications to ensure transparency across stakeholders.
  • Provide recommendations to the Executive Director of Academic & Clinical Services regarding clinical placement activities.
  • Collaborate with many internal and external teams to drive continuous quality improvements and solutions.
  • Other appropriate related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, Public Health, Education or related field and 4 years of related supervisory/leadership experience.
  • Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Strong leadership and management skills, including project management skills.
  • Experience in clinical placements within higher education.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated exceptional time management skills.
  • Experience and competencies in database management.
  • Must be able to occasionally travel for clinical site relationships.
  • Valid driver's license by date of hire.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree in relevant field.
  • Previous work with a College/School of Nursing or other educational program with emphasis on experiential learning.
  • Experience in recruitment, staff supervision and program development and evaluation.
  • Experience working with diverse faculty, staff and students.
