About The Role

The Below Grade Inspections Superintendent is responsible for overseeing and managing all below grade inspection and maintenance activities for utility poles. This role requires extensive experience in below grade inspection management, leading multiple teams, and ensuring that all operations meet the highest standards of quality, safety, and efficiency. The superintendent will be instrumental in developing strategic initiatives to improve inspection processes and support the organization’s long-term goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the below grade inspection program, setting standards, protocols, and best practices.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of innovative inspection techniques and technologies.
  • Establish and monitor KPIs to ensure continuous improvement and efficiency in inspection operations.
  • Build, grow, and implement training programs for inspection teams.
  • Supervise and mentor Below Grade Field Survey Supervisors and their respective teams.
  • Provide leadership, training, and development opportunities to enhance team performance and professional growth.
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback.
  • Start with managing a single team of 4 and expand with new clients.
  • Plan, coordinate, and oversee all field inspection activities to meet project timelines and objectives.
  • Ensure the accurate and thorough collection of inspection data using advanced equipment and methodologies.
  • Monitor equipment usage, maintenance schedules, and ensure all tools are in optimal working condition.
  • Ensure the integrity and accuracy of collected data through rigorous quality control processes.
  • Oversee the management and organization of datasets for both field and office applications.
  • Develop comprehensive reports and provide actionable recommendations based on data analysis.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for clients, stakeholders, and regulatory bodies regarding below grade inspections.
  • Communicate project progress, challenges, and solutions effectively to all relevant parties.
  • Ensure all documentation is accurate, concise, and up to standard.
  • Manage budget allocations, resource planning, and logistical support for inspection operations.
  • Assist in strategic planning and decision-making to align inspection activities with organizational goals.
  • Coordinate high-priority meetings and provide high-level administrative support.
  • Enforce all safety protocols and ensure compliance with regulatory guidelines.
  • Conduct regular safety audits and training sessions to maintain a safe working environment.

Key Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geomatics, Surveying, Civil Engineering, or a related field; or equivalent professional experience.
  • Advanced knowledge in below grade inspection techniques and technologies.
  • 3-5 years of direct below grade inspection management experience.
  • Proven track record of managing large teams and complex projects in a field-based environment.
  • Expertise in using and maintaining inspection equipment such as digging tools, boring tools, and chemical treatment supplies.
  • Proficiency in GIS applications and data integration platforms.
  • Strong understanding of T&D infrastructure, including utility poles and related equipment.
  • OSHA Safety Certification.
  • Certification in Below Grade Utility Pole Inspection (industry standard).
  • First Aid/CPR Certification.
  • Experience in operational scheduling, fleet management, and equipment inventory management.
  • Ability to work long hours in diverse weather conditions and travel frequently as required.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Pro, and relevant software.
  • Experience with API usage and data integration tools.
  • Superior interpersonal and communication skills with extensive experience in client-facing roles.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage and manage stakeholders effectively.
  • Highly organized, self-motivated, and capable of leading teams and driving projects to successful completion.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make sound decisions under pressure.
  • Commitment to safety and compliance with regulatory guidelines.

Key Info

  • Primarily field-based with some office work required for data entry and reporting.
  • Requires working in various weather conditions and at different sites.
  • Frequent travel, including overnight stays, may be required per client requests.
