Today SpaceX is actively developing the technologies to make this possible, with the ultimate goal of enabling human life on Mars.ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH & SAFETY ENGINEER (STARSHIELD)RESPONSIBILITIES:Develop and maintain compliance with all applicable regulations and/or guidelines established by OSHA, NFPA and NIOSH and other applicable regulatory agenciesCollaborate with department leadership to complete job hazard assessments and implement health and safety policies and proceduresMonitor employee exposure to physical and chemical hazardsUnderstand and implement machine guarding where neededDevelop recommendations for remedial actions when safety policies are not met by employeesInspect facilities, machinery, and safety equipment in order to identify and correct potential hazards and ensure compliance with all applicable regulationsComplete and maintain documented safety observations from regular hazard identification auditsInvestigate industrial accidents, injuries, or occupational diseases to determine root causes, corrective actions and preventive measuresDevelop, implement and maintain safety contingency plans (fires, spills, etc.)Develop and maintain compliance with all applicable regulations established by the EPA, CERCLA, RCRA, DOT, TRRC, RWQCB, NEPA and other applicable regulatory agenciesEnsure that resources are allocated appropriately to safety-related itemsEnsure technicians are completing required safety inspections via daily communication and oversightEnsure hazards are being appropriately addressed and Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) assessments are created.Maintain recordkeeping and compliance requirements established for permitted sources defined by the local AQMDMaintain compliance with the Certified Unified Program AgencyBASIC QUALIFICATIONS:Bachelor's degree3+ years of experience in the design, development and operational oversight of environmental, health and safety disciplinesPREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:Bachelor’s degree in engineering with an emphasis in occupational health and safetyStrong knowledge and experience in interpreting, applying and documenting federal, state and local safety and environmental regulationsStrong organizational and communication skillsFamiliarity and implementation of machine guarding and industrial hygiene programsExperience with emergency response communication and incident management in incidents involving hazardous and non-hazardous material releases to air, soil, and waterMicrosoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook)Passion for advancing the commercial and National Security space industryAbility and willingness to obtain a Top-Secret clearanceADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:This is not a remote or hybrid position and will require relocation if not already local to the Hawthorne, CA areaAn active clearance may provide the opportunity for you to work on sensitive SpaceX missions; if so, you will be subject to pre-employment drug and random drug and alcohol testingPosition occasionally requires the ability to work extended hours and weekends when neededCOMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:Pay range:Environmental Health & Safety Engineer/Level I: $95,000.00 - $115,000.00/per yearEnvironmental Health & Safety Engineer/Level II: $110,000.00 - $130,000.00/per yearYour actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX.
