Position Summary

As a Staff Software Engineer, you will participate in the discovery phase of medium to large projects to come up with a high-level design. Design, implement, and test complex code changes for specific business requirements. Analyzes business needs and develops plans to implement software requirements in conjunction with product management and architects. You will direct root cause analysis of critical business and production issues by reviewing and analyzing information (for example, issue, impact, criticality, possible root cause) and directing actions as designated in the plan.

What You'll Do

  • Lead the development of pre-transaction backend and orchestration systems at Sam's Club, migrating existing legacy code to new state-of-art technologies and initiatives under product roadmaps.
  • Actively participate and lead the technical requirements analysis, design review, contract closure with cross-functional teams across the globe.
  • Participate in and identify architectural improvements, code review, best practices, delivering testable, maintainable, and high-quality solutions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand project requirements, timelines, and deliverables.
  • Mentor/coach other engineers in the team to facilitate their development and to provide technical leadership to them.
  • Manage and maintain multiple production and non-production environments, ensuring that these environments are set up with the standard automated build and release processes & deliver with quality, reliability.
  • Build, leverage and analyze tools, application logs, and analytics data to determine improvements to the product and engineering services.
  • Monitor the health of web pages, work cross-functionally with partner teams such as Site Ops, Network, Storage, Systems, Monitoring & Application team.
  • Set high standards for operational excellence and system observability.
  • Encourage a culture of innovation, creativity, and high standards within the team, promoting the adoption of new technologies and best practices.

What You'll Bring

  • 10+ years of hands-on programming experience in Golang, Java / Clojure, GraphQL / REST.
  • Excellent computer systems fundamentals, data structures/algorithms, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong experience with SQL/No-SQL and database, distributed caching, distributed event store, and stream-processing technologies (MySQL, Cassandra, Oracle, CosmosDB, Elastic, Redis, Kafka, etc.).
  • Strong knowledge of Go programming language, paradigms, constructs, and idioms.
  • Strong knowledge in developing APIs in GraphQL and/or REST.
  • Knowledge of common Goroutine and channel patterns.
  • Experience in systems design, design patterns, microservices, and distributed systems.
  • Experience in system monitoring, logging, tracing, and triaging tools (e.g., Grafana, Splunk, Kibana, etc.).
  • Large-scale distributed services experience, including scalability and fault tolerance.
  • Exposure to cloud infrastructure, such as Azure, GCP, or Open Stack.
  • Exposure to build, CI/CD & deployment pipelines and related technologies like Kubernetes, Docker, Jenkins, etc., especially with Go-based applications.

Minimum Qualifications

Outlined below are the required minimum qualifications for this position:

  • Option 1: Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 4 years' experience in software engineering or related area.
  • Option 2: 6 years' experience in software engineering or related area.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Software Engineering, or related area and 2 years' experience in software engineering or related area.
