We believe quantum computing will change everything. It will have the power to transform the foundations of giant industries that rely on intensive computation. PsiQuantum is on a mission to build the world’s first useful quantum computer, capable of delivering these transformative results. We know that means it will need 1 million qubits, error correction, a scalable architecture and a data center footprint.
By harnessing the laws of quantum physics, quantum computers can provide exponential performance increases over today’s most powerful supercomputers, offering the potential for extraordinary advances across a broad range of industries including climate, energy, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, finance, agriculture, transportation, materials design, and many more.
PsiQuantum is uniquely positioned to deliver on the promise of quantum computing years earlier than our competitors. Our architecture is based on photonics which gives us the ability to produce our components using existing high-volume semiconductor manufacturing processes, the same processes that are today producing billions of chips for telecom and consumer electronics applications. Since photons don’t feel heat, we can take advantage of existing cryogenic cooling systems, the kind that have been operating at facilities like the Stanford Linear Accelerator (SLAC). And because photons are in fact light, they can move between subsystems at tremendous speed using standard fiber connectivity.
Our team is building a utility scale quantum computer and the software tools needed to build fault tolerant quantum applications. We’re a highly motivated and collaborative group focused on a singular goal - building the world’s first useful quantum computer on the fastest path possible.
There’s much more work to be done and we are looking for exceptional talent to join us on this extraordinary journey!
Job Summary:
PsiQ is seeking test engineers for our Test & Measurement (“T&M”) team. The T&M team is responsible for our functional yield and test platforms: This includes test hardware, software, and applications to support our photonics, electronics, reliability, and yield platforms. These test platforms are used for characterization, validation, and pre-production tests and interface to a data platform environment to facilitate T&M and adjacent team data reduction, data analysis, and design feedback.
We have roles focusing on photonic devices, test development, high volume wafer testing, and hardware enablement. As such, the successful candidate should have demonstrated strong ability in at least one of characterization of passive photonic chips, active photonics measurement, or superconducting device characterization. Hardware skills are encouraged, including CAD-based design.
Responsibilities:
- Technical capability: Deep knowledge on at least one area of device and test characterization.
- Technical breadth: Able to be effective in hardware, software, and statistics. As a high velocity startup, technical flexibility is key.
- Operations: Work with operational stakeholders to make sure test equipment, use cases and plans are completed to allow effective testing on systems, and develop for speed and first time correctness.
- Equipment repair and troubleshooting: Hands on ability to fix software, hardware, and electronics issues.
- Documentation: Good code and hardware planning and documentation is crucial.
Experience/Qualifications:
- Degree in Engineering or Physics. Advanced degrees welcome.
- Experience in Hardware development.
- Experience with test system programming, with Python development experience strongly preferred.
- Experience working with engineers and technologists in R&D and NPI environments.
- Desired: Familiarity with many of the following: computing architectures, semiconductor subsystems, lasers/photonics, switching systems, packaging technologies, advanced testing, systems engineering, or cryogenic systems.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Leadership and Ownership. Ability to work independently with limited direction.
- Biased to action: works to get critical work done quickly and well.
- Results oriented: make commitments, stay on schedule, update regularly, and deliver.
- Attention to detail. Data-driven with high quality work.
- Strong organization skills. Works well in teams.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with an ability to communicate effectively to a variety of audiences.
- Demonstrated interest in PsiQ’s mission and vision for quantum computing, with an ability to contribute in a start-up environment consistent with PsiQ’s values of communication, collaboration, respect, results and challenge.
