Your new role

As a Senior Offshore Wind Geoscientist, you will take on a dynamic role in the offshore wind industry, providing specialized expertise in geology, geophysics, and ground modeling to support offshore wind farm development projects. In this consultancy position, you will work with a variety of clients and projects, offering your geoscientific knowledge to assess seabed conditions, optimize foundation designs, and ensure the long-term performance of offshore wind infrastructure. Your ability to provide expert guidance and solutions will be critical to the success of our clients' projects. This position requires a deep understanding of geological and geotechnical processes in the marine environment, as well as proficiency in ground modeling techniques and software.

This individual will have experience managing consulting assignments, must work effectively in multi-disciplinary teams, is expected to be proficient in the analysis and communication of information, and must be able to work cooperatively with agencies, organizations, and individuals to guide decision-making. The successful candidate also is expected to be proficient in geoscience and technical aspects of marine environments. He/she must demonstrate a commitment to mentoring and developing staff and collaboration with colleagues throughout the Practice.

Your key tasks and responsibilities may include:

  • Collaborate with clients to understand their specific project needs and objectives related to offshore wind geoscience and ground modeling.
  • Conduct thorough geoscientific studies and assessments of potential offshore wind farm sites, tailored to each client's requirements.
  • Utilize geophysical data, including bathymetry, sub-bottom profiling, seismic surveys, and other relevant sources, to inform site characterization.
  • Perform detailed geological and geotechnical analyses to create accurate ground models that encompass soil composition, stratigraphy, sedimentary layers, and geohazards.
  • Offer expert recommendations and insights to clients on foundation design, installation methodologies, and geotechnical risk mitigation.
  • Prepare comprehensive feasibility studies that evaluate the suitability of proposed wind farm locations, considering geotechnical constraints and environmental factors.
  • Assess and mitigate geohazards, such as seismic activity, submarine landslides, and shallow gas, to ensure the safety and reliability of offshore wind projects.
  • Provide guidance on the integration of ground model outputs into the overall design and construction processes, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams.
  • Stay informed about industry advancements, best practices, and regulatory requirements relevant to offshore wind geoscience and ground modeling.
  • Deliver clear and concise technical reports and presentations to clients, conveying complex information effectively.

These include:

  • Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Geology, Geophysics, Earth Sciences, or a related field. A Ph.D. is advantageous.
  • Experience: Proven experience in ground modeling, geotechnical engineering, or a similar field, preferably within the oil & gas and/or offshore wind industry.
  • Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of marine geology, geophysics, and geotechnical principles and their application to offshore projects. Proficiency in utilizing ground modeling software and geotechnical analysis tools (e.g., GIS, AutoCAD, PLAXIS, GRLWEAP, or similar). Familiarity with relevant industry standards and regulations, such as DNV, IEC, and ISO, pertaining to offshore wind geoscience and ground modeling. Ability to interpret and integrate various geophysical and geotechnical data sets for comprehensive analysis and decision-making.
  • Leadership Skills: Proven leadership abilities with the capability to manage and inspire a team. Excellent organizational, communication, and decision-making skills are essential.
  • Client-Focused Approach: Ability to understand and address client needs, build trust, and deliver high-quality consulting services. Strong presentation and negotiation skills to effectively communicate complex technical concepts to diverse stakeholders.
  • Project Management: Demonstrated experience in managing multiple consulting projects simultaneously, including budgeting, resource allocation, and risk management. Proficiency in project management software and tools is beneficial. Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy and quality in data analysis and reporting.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment, managing multiple tasks and priorities.
