Caterpillar Inc. seeks a Data Modeler - Lead at its facility located at 540 W Madison St, Chicago, Illinois 60661. This position will serve as a technical resource to lead teams and perform all necessary data-related tasks in data quality, data design, metadata management, and data governance of Caterpillar’s digital offerings. Responsibilities include:

  1. Work directly on complex problems and provide solutions aligned with the overall objectives of Cat Digital.
  2. Understand and evaluate business requirements impacting the Caterpillar enterprise and internal and external customers.
  3. Liaise with data creators to support project planning, training, and guidance on standards.
  4. Contribute to policies, procedures, and standards as well as technical requirements.
  5. Create the data management strategy and define continuous improvement goals of data quality, governance, and processes.
  6. Lead communication across various lines of businesses and technology partners to monitor, collect, review, and roadmap business data requirements.
  7. Ensure compliance with the latest data standards supported by the company.
  8. Maintain knowledge of functional technology of the data management systems.
  9. Maintain existing data quality scorecard measurements and resolve exceptions with data owners.
  10. Design robust, scalable databases and data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) solutions.
  11. Document data models for domains, including logical data models and canonical formats.
  12. Develop data ingestion store specifications and data object pipeline specifications.
  13. Create, update, and enhance metadata policies, processes, and catalogs.
  14. Drive alignment and coordination of data governance efforts.

Minimum Requirements:

This position requires a Bachelor’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Analytics, or a closely related field, plus 5 years of experience as a Data Modeler, database administrator, data engineer, or related occupation. Alternatively, the employer will accept a Master’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in the same fields, plus 2 years of experience. Additional requirements include:

  1. Data engineering using SQL, Java, and Python.
  2. Database Administration for Relational databases and Snowflake.
  3. Data warehouse experience using Snowflake.
  4. Machine Learning experience using AWS technology stack.
  5. Knowledge of AWS components like Dynamo DB, Kinesis, Fargate, Lambda.
  6. Data Science – Data Cleansing, Data Exploration, Statistical Analysis, Predictive Modeling.
  7. Data Modeling using Erwin data modeling tool.

Telecommuting: 3 days per week.
