Purpose

The Medical Science Liaison has the primary responsibility of building key opinion leader (KOL) partnerships by engaging in the exchange of scientific data and other medical and/or scientific information with external stakeholders (HCPs, researchers, professional organization leadership, and formulary decision-makers) in the assigned Therapeutic Areas (TAs).

Main Responsibilities

External Relationship Management & Development:

  1. Build external partnerships with recognized community and academic medical center KOLs to identify and address scientific needs and to stay abreast of current scientific trends in assigned Therapeutic Area.
  2. Identify and develop key thought leaders (national, regional, and local) for medical education, clinical research, and publication opportunities.
  3. Cultivate existing and identify new collaborative KOL relationships for advisory boards, company-sponsored, investigator-initiated research, and speaker development.
  4. Provide field insights gained to field managers and team for elevation within the organization.
  5. Identify opportunities and provide medical support including scientific education to healthcare professionals (HCPs) at key institutions.
  6. Foster professional relationships in key institutions for Chiesi GRD within an assigned geography.
  7. Recognize opportunities to facilitate cross-functional engagement based on customer needs.
  8. Identify and characterize need within therapeutic area related to real-world evidence.

Medical Affairs, Therapeutic Support, & Internal Collaboration:

  1. Represent Chiesi GRD Medical Affairs at national, regional, and local scientific meetings.
  2. Provide field-based medical affairs assistance for clinical research initiatives supported by the company, related to Investigator Initiated Trials, or other collaborative initiatives.
  3. Deliver high-caliber medical education presentations in a variety of settings.
  4. Gather and disseminate competitive intelligence from multiple sources in accordance with company policies.
  5. Participate and contribute to publication planning, clinical research, medical education material development, as well as internal training initiatives.
  6. Partner cross-functionally in assigned region, to optimize customer experience.
  7. Contribute to monthly medical meetings including journal clubs and team meetings.

Project Work:

  1. Lead and support internal medical projects.
  2. Support cross-functional projects and streamline medical input.

Administrative Work:

  1. Accurate and timely completion of all administrative reports, projects, and required training.
  2. Participate in continuing education to maintain high-level expertise in the assigned therapeutic areas.

Experience Required

  1. 3-5 years clinical experience relevant to the Therapeutic Area assigned to the prospective candidate (preferred).
  2. Demonstration of proficiency in therapeutic area competencies.
  3. Exceptional Communication skills are key to success in the role:
  • Highly articulate and persuasive during formal and informal presentations; able to convey complex, scientific ideas fluently to any audience.
  • Has the ability to tactfully provide scientifically sound, constructive feedback to national, regional, local key opinion leaders, and HCPs.
  • Actively listens to others.
  • Adept at confidently stating expert opinion while respecting the positions of others - can exert diplomacy while standing firm on a position.
  • Builds and leverages strategic internal and external relationships to identify potential opportunities and partnerships to provide value and improve quality of care for providers and patients.
  • Utilizes effective, professional communications to cultivate strong working relationships with internal and external colleagues.
  • Work effectively on multi-disciplinary teams to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Skillfully plans, prioritizes, and executes multiple responsibilities with minimal supervision in a highly dynamic work environment.
  • Maintains a positive attitude and demonstrates flexibility during challenging situations.
  • Education

    Completion of a graduate level degree (PharmD., M.D., D.O, PhD, MSN, MS or equivalent healthcare professional degree) as well as relevant clinical experience.
