This position also oversees junior staff and takes on the review of more complex grant activities in order to ensure departmental compliance with applicable guidelines, rules, and regulations.CORE JOB FUNCTIONS1. Provides technical assistance and guidance to faculty and administrators in the development andpreparation of funding proposals.2. Responds to general inquiries regarding sponsored program policies and procedures.3. Reviews grant applications to ensure accuracy.4. Accesses applicable database(s) to verify regulatory compliance approvals before establishing of theproject account.5. Maintains the internal proposal documents and electronic records for assigned portfolio.6. Processes and disseminates various non-financial post-award actions such as award notifications,amendments, and related documents.7. Assists in the coordination of the project closeout.8. Coordinates with faculty on possible need for budget revisions to be consistent with award amount asreceived.9. Reviews award terms and conditions and discusses flagged items with faculty.10. Oversees all audits and bank reconciliations of petty cash accounts.11. Monitors sponsored programs subcontracting activity.12. Submits to accounts payable all received and endorsed invoices and tracks timely payments by thatunit.13. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.This list of duties and responsibilities is not intended to be all-inclusive and may be expanded to includeother duties or responsibilities as necessary.Departmental Specific Functions:The Sr. Sponsored Programs Specialist will be responsible for the expense management of research grants and contracts for the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center (SCCC) awards portfolio. This position serves as a resource to SCCC members in the financial administration of sponsored research awards. Essential duties include the expense and account monitoring, financial reporting, financial closeout and other post-award financial analysis and support for sponsored awards.Monitor, review and reconcile award budgets, balances and expenses. Expenses must be allowable, allocable, and reasonable in accordance with grant terms and conditions, the budget limits and period of performance.Conduct periodic reviews for assigned sponsored awards (portfolio reviews), including monitoring spending trends, transaction review/approval, resolving small balances on awards, tracking cost sharing commitments, and monitoring of subrecipient expenditures.Review, approve and perform salary redistributions and journal entries as needed to ensure proper expenditure accounting.Identify, investigate and resolve discrepancies or errors found within research accounts.
