The position will provide legal support for Nexamp’s consumer-facing business units. Specifically, this position will support the development of products and services that enhance Nexamp’s value to our growing customer base. This position will also manage the legal function for Nexamp’s well-established community solar program and business unit. This will entail managing the contracts for existing community solar markets and developing contracts for new market entry as well.

This role requires a passion for addressing climate change, a willingness to learn new markets and ideas, and an ability to think commercially, in addition to a strong legal background.

We are supporting hybrid work and accepting candidates out of our hub offices, including Chicago, IL, Washington, D.C, and Boston, MA.

Responsibilities

  1. Oversee all legal aspects of the development of new consumer products. Work with internal stakeholders across consumer products, finance, marketing, business development and operations teams to support the development and implementation of new consumer products.
  2. Responsible for ensuring products and marketing materials are in compliance with relevant programmatic rules as well as applicable state and federal consumer protection law (including unfair or deceptive practices, the FTC “Green Guides”, privacy and identity protection rules, various telemarketing and other electronic communication rules).
  3. Support community solar sales and marketing teams. This entails ensuring compliance with programmatic rules and applicable consumer protection law, and coordinating with relevant stakeholders to update contracts to reflect new practices, programs and markets.
  4. Serve as a trusted advisor and leader to the consumer products team, community solar sales and marketing teams and other business units developing and focused on decarbonization products for our customers.

Qualifications

  1. Law degree from an accredited law school.
  2. 2-5 years legal experience required, preferably in a law firm setting.
  3. Strong familiarity with consumer contracts and consumer protection laws are required.
  4. Specific experience in renewable energy projects is preferred, but candidates with strong backgrounds in mergers & acquisitions are also encouraged to apply.
  5. Ability to work in a highly team-oriented environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously with little supervision.
  6. Excellent commercial judgment and written and oral communication skills are required.
  7. Occasional travel may be required.
