JOB OVERVIEW


The George Washing University (GW) Honors Program is searching for a Program Coordinator to provide general administrative support. This role will serve as a point of contact for the program, will answer typical program questions, and will assist the program staff with a variety of functional and administrative support. Support could include answering routine and complex inquiries, updating websites and list-servs, executing events, scheduling rooms, ordering equipment, processing payments, data entry, preparing reports, and similar duties. Often these roles are tasked with outreach to other GW stakeholders in order to assist in maintaining standard operational efficiencies. Typical duties often are administrative in nature including tasks that are routine, and under the general supervision of more senior personnel within the department, or program.


The GW Honors Program helps students hone their analytical and expressive powers, deepen their understanding of complex issues and questions, and broaden their perspectives. Built upon an interdisciplinary honors experience, the program is fully aligned with the highest academic aspirations of GW's schools and departments. Honors students are intellectual omnivores who know that you can't be interested in one thing without being interested in all things.


Reporting to the Assistant Director of Finance and Administration, the Program Coordinator, University Honors Program is responsible for:


  • Providing administrative support to the unit. Maintaining office supplies and office machines; ordering service and supplies, as needed. Photo copying, filing, word processing and data entry. Maintaining calendars for professional staff and conference rooms. Answering phone and email inquiries for the Honors Program main line and main email account. P-card administrator for the unit.
  • Main point of contact for tech support within the UHP unit, working with IT to get technology installed and maintained. Providing technical assistance to staff and faculty, as needed. Point person for facilities and maintenance issues.
  • Communicating information that requires explaining practices, procedures and policies.
  • Managing and maintaining the Honors Program's various listservs on Hermes, which includes creating and disseminating weekly informational messages to students.
  • Creating announcements, advertisements and posters to promote events.
  • Under direct guidance, assisting with the disbursement of content for the Honors community and alumni through Facebook, Twitter, the official website, and the blog. Ensuring that the content and design of the Honors Program website complies with the University's unified web presence initiative.
  • Updating the Phi Beta Kappa (PBK) Ceremony brochure and distributing content and materials.
  • Providing assistance and coaching support staff. May supervise and oversee the work of student employees.

The position is based at GW's Foggy Bottom Campus in Washington, DC. The incumbent may perform other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.


Minimum Qualifications


Qualified candidates will hold a high school diploma/GED plus 3 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.


Preferred Qualifications


  • Demonstrate strong written communication skills.
  • Experience with website maintenance.
  • Experience with newsletter preparation and distribution.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of Google spreadsheets.

Hiring Range


$21.27 - $27.63
