Job Requirements / Description

A law firm is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Technical Advisor/Patent Agent to join their team in Boston, MA. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in preparing and prosecuting patent applications, with additional experience in litigation, opinions, licensing, patent due diligence, and/or trademark matters. The candidate must possess excellent communication and research skills, a keen attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and prosecute patent applications.
  • Draft responses to USPTO office actions.
  • Work closely with attorneys for patent preparation and prosecution.
  • Draft instructions to foreign patent agents in response to office actions.
  • Maintain a detailed understanding of products and technical developments.
  • Conduct patentability studies and draft related assessments.
  • Provide technical support for opinions, diligence projects, and litigation.
  • Communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, with clients, lawyers, business professionals, and third parties.
  • Produce deliverables, answer phone calls, and reply to correspondence efficiently and responsively.
  • Provide timely, accurate, and quality work products.
  • Meet deadlines and perform work duties as required.
  • Foster positive work relationships.
  • Comply with all firm policies and practices.
  • Engage in both physical and sedentary activities, such as working at a computer for extended periods, participating in digital/virtual conference calls, and attending meetings as needed.
  • Perform all other duties, tasks, or projects as assigned.

Requirements:

  • 2-5 years of engineering and/or research experience.
  • Excellent communication and research skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent analytical skills.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (EE), Computer Science (CS), Mechanical Engineering (ME), or a related field.
  • Master’s Degree or similar advanced degree desired.
  • Registration with the USPTO.
