Caterpillar Inc. seeks a Data Modeler - Lead at its facility located at 540 W Madison St, Chicago, Illinois 60661. This technical resource will lead teams and perform all necessary data-related tasks in data quality, data design, metadata management, and data governance of Caterpillar’s digital offerings. Responsibilities include:
- Working directly on complex problems and providing solutions aligned with overall objectives of Cat Digital.
- Understanding and evaluating business requirements impacting the Caterpillar enterprise, dealership partners, and other internal and external customers.
- Liaising with data creators to support project planning, training, and guidance on standards for high-quality data creation and maintenance.
- Contributing to policies, procedures, and standards as well as technical requirements.
- Creating the data management strategy and defining continuous improvement goals for data quality, governance, and processes.
- Leading communication across various lines of businesses and technology partners to monitor, collect, review, and roadmap business data requirements and related technology solutions.
- Ensuring compliance with the latest data standards supported by the company, and brand, legal, information security (data security and privacy compliance).
- Maintaining knowledge of functional technology of the data management systems as they change with upgrades and new releases.
- Maintaining existing data quality scorecard measurements, executing scorecards, and resolving exceptions with data owners and source systems.
- Designing robust, scalable databases and data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) solutions.
- Documenting data models for domains to be deployed, including logical data models and candidate source lists.
- Developing data ingestion store specifications identifying source systems and the tables and fields to ingest.
- Creating, updating, and enhancing metadata policies, processes, and catalogs.
- Driving alignment and coordination of data governance efforts.
Minimum Requirements:
This position requires a Bachelor’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Analytics, or a closely related field, plus 5 years of experience as a Data Modeler, Database Administrator, Data Engineer, or related occupation. Alternatively, a Master’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in the same fields, plus 2 years of experience will be accepted. Additionally, the applicant must have employment experience with:
- Data engineering using SQL, Java, and Python;
- Database Administration for Relational databases and Snowflake;
- Data warehouse experience using Snowflake;
- Machine Learning experience using AWS technology stack;
- Knowledge of AWS components like Dynamo DB, Kinesis, Fargate, Lambda;
- Data Science – Data Cleansing, Data Exploration, Statistical Analysis, Predictive Modeling;
- Data Modeling using Erwin data modeling tool.
Telecommuting: 3 days per week.
