SUMMARY

The Guest Supervisor is an integral member of the Winter Sanctuary team. The main role of the Guest Supervisor is to monitor shelter guests and ensure the shelter is safe. The goal of the Guest Supervisor is to create a positive environment where guests can work on the goals that they have established with the Shelter Advocates.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Opens the shelter at the beginning of the 5:30-10pm shift and closes the shelter at the end of the 10pm-9am shift.
  • Reviews the journal immediately upon arrival.
  • Checks each guest in during the 5:30-10pm shift, completing the Guest Arrival Checklist.
  • Checks each guest out during the 10pm-9am shift and/or if a guest leaves at any time, completing the Guest Arrival Checklist.
  • Completes the chores for each shift on the Staff Cleaning Checklist.
  • Enforces shelter rules, ensuring the safety of all guests, staff, and volunteers.
  • Provides mentorship and positive interaction to the guests.
  • Completes the New Guest Checklist, the Guest Move Out Checklist, and the Incident Report as appropriate.
  • Documents in the journal at the end of each shift.
  • Answers the phone, and relays messages to the appropriate staff member.
  • Attends staff meetings and other educational/training sessions as needed or required.

COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS

  • Excellent written, verbal, and electronic communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with people with diverse educational, cultural, and socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Ability to respond to a crisis in a calm and collected manner.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the importance of confidentiality as it relates to guests, staff, and volunteers.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the essential functions.
  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • Ability to work additional shifts as needed.
  • Complete goal setting and annual performance review.

DESIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL LEVEL OR EQUIVALENCY

  • High school diploma.
  • Experience working independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills/ability to work with a diverse population.
