Senior Director of Administration (Neurology & Psychiatry)

Rutgers The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Senior Director of Administration for the departments of Neurology and Psychiatry at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.

This position is primarily responsible for developing, implementing, directing, and providing overall management of the administrative infrastructure for a complex and widely dispersed academic department to ensure support to the chairs’ academic, research, and clinical programs, whether university or hospital-based. The scope of the position requires administrative leadership in general administration, financial management, organizational development, labor relations, marketing, operations management, information systems management, and overall policy and procedure development and implementation. The overarching responsibility is ensuring the departments’ best selection and use of resources for maintaining and developing departmental programs.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:

  • Develops, implements, and constantly renews overall administrative programs to support the program objectives of the chairs.
  • Develops, implements, and manages annual departmental budgets including clinical, academic, and research components to support the objectives of the departments.
  • Provides administrative directions and leadership for support staff at six (6) locations.
  • Encourages development of standardized administrative practices throughout the departments with satellite practices.
  • Develops and ensures implementation of overall clinical practice process standards and objectives.
  • Works with chairs to refine practice incentive programs to best fit departmental programmatic goals.
  • Develops and implements physician productivity monitoring systems.
  • Develops and manages departments’ administrative organization to maintain best fit of resources and environmental demands.

Position Status: Full Time

Work Arrangement: This position requires a fully on-site work arrangement.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Hospital or Business Administration, Health Services, or a related field plus seven (7) to ten (10) years of management experience with fiscal, program, and personnel responsibilities, preferably in an academic environment.
  • Experience in the formulation of health care policies.
  • Equivalent education, experience, and/or training may be substituted for the degree requirement.

  • Outstanding human relations and leadership skills, with the ability to function in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of how to accomplish superior performance in a unionized environment.

Physical Demands: Standing, sitting, walking, talking, and hearing. Lifting up to 25 lbs.
