JOB SUMMARY: As part of the company’s leadership team, the Director of Logistics oversees the daily operations of the company fleet; optimizes all inbound, outbound, and customer delivery logistics; monitors and controls all logistics key performance indicators; sets strategic directions for company-owned, asset-based fleet; and ensures customer satisfaction is achieved and improved before all other indicators.


JOB DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Sets strategic direction for company logistics group by establishing a 5-year vision and business plan and executing this plan with the team.
  • Guides, consults, and assists in overall supply chain design including logistics, staging, and trucking asset utilization.
  • Recommends, monitors, and improves Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to achieve yearly goals and helps support company objectives and business plans.
  • Manages all fleet operations including over-the-road trucking fleet, local delivery equipment, sales company cars, and facility forklifts.
  • Creates, manages, and oversees all vendor relationships and negotiations with third party providers for equipment and tool leases and purchases, including trucks, trailers, and monitoring equipment.
  • Provides key input from Logistics to the rest of the leadership team to help improve business operations at all locations and support customer needs.
  • Hires, develops, and leads Logistics team consisting of managers, supervisors, coordinators, and drivers.
  • Generates and drives cost reductions and efficiency within the Logistics area in coordination with representatives from Finance.
  • Oversees maintenance and training for compliance with administrative policies, procedures, safety, and DOT regulations throughout the logistics network.
  • Provides support to the Executive Team as requested and performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain or Operations Management and eight years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Previous experience leading and managing teams required.
  • Strong knowledge of logistics techniques and methods, process improvement methodology, and project management.
  • Manufactured-to-Order supply chain experience.
  • Experience with asset-based fleet management.
  • Experience in strategic planning.
  • Well-organized and able to set priorities, manage time, and coordinate multiple tasks.
  • Possesses excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Possesses strong understanding of supply chain and logistics computer systems.
  • Possesses knowledge of DOT rules and regulations.
  • Experience in managing activities and coordination across operational sites.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Leadership:

  • Leads, develops, and provides constant feedback to team aligned with Central States Leadership expectations and leadership training.
  • Sets area goals and objective aligned with Site and Corporate goals and objectives. Communicates what the EO’s can do to improve the results. Creates a Line of Sight to the goals/objectives with action plans to achieve them.
  • Leads and influences remote non-direct report team to ensure achievement of divisional objectives.
  • Coaches all team members to improve and understand basic improvement mindset, job duties, and safety.
  • Identifies and mentors high potential team members to prepare them for the next steps, including one-on-one time to have them learn from experience of doing, exposure to situation, and education for skills.
  • Promotes team building to have the team working to one goal and objective, building trust within the team, and reacting to any distractions to this teamwork quickly.
  • Motivates the team to always hit and exceed goals. Points out and corrects concerns or issues.

Operations:

  • Plans annual capacity (people and equipment) and budgets. Determines needed shifts, staffing, and performance improvements required to exceed customer expectations. Develops and executes the plan, including capital spending needed to support the necessary performance improvements.
  • Monitors the team’s performance against KPI’s. Works with the team to ensure deviations (good and bad) are understood and actions are in place to address these deviations.
  • Understands cost control and what financially impacts the department.
  • Anticipates future evolution of the industry, market, and business in order to develop a strategic vision and identify opportunities for the division.

Communication:

  • Asks clarifying questions to understand reality and determine root causes of issues.
  • Clarifies expectations, performance, and company initiatives.
  • Ensures communication and alignment with division Logistics group, allowing for common vision, purpose, and goals.
  • Promote positive constructive relationships between Divisional and Corporate teams to ensure one team and confronting any non-productive behaviors to correct.
  • Visually and verbally informs assigned area of performance for company, site, area, and individual.
