The Keck School of Medicine (KSOM) of the University of Southern California (USC) Department of Pediatrics and the Department of Anesthesiology Critical Care Medicine (ACCM) at Children's Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) are actively seeking a full-time board-certified physician leader for the position of Division Chief of Critical Care Medicine at CHLA . The academic rank of the successful candidate will be as an Associate or Full Professor of Pediatrics, dependent on individual experience.

Position Description

We are seeking an accomplished clinician scientist to lead and cultivate the academic development and productivity of the Division of Critical Care Medicine. As a pivotal departmental leader, the Chief will be responsible for leading a team of 25 intensivists.

The individual in this role has operational responsibility for the intensivist service and includes collaboration with the medical directors of the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit (CTICU). The position also includes supporting the academic success and professional development of our faculty and fellows.

Candidate Attributes

The ideal candidate will be a pediatric intensivist with an accomplished clinical research record and prior successes in developing and mentoring faculty members. The ideal candidate will demonstrate an ability to inspire and motivate through vision and purpose, has academic credentials of merit, and has effectively managed people around short and long-term objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Providing leadership and input at the Departmental level along with leadership and strategic direction to a dedicated team of critical care medicine professionals.
  • Collaborating with an interdisciplinary team to deliver high-quality clinical services to patients and their families.
  • Creating a positive work environment.
  • Providing guidance and mentorship for physicians and trainees to support a culture of professionalism and effective communication within the division and department.
  • Building a strong partnership with other division leaders to collaborate with physician leaders on clinical activities.
  • Identifying and championing opportunities for growth of the department's and division's clinical, research, and educational programs.
  • Leading recruitment for department faculty; recommending faculty appointment, reappointment, and academic promotions.

Requirements:

  • Board certification in Pediatrics and Pediatric Critical Care Medicine
  • Experience
    • Minimum of 7 years of Pediatric Critical Care experience.
    • Experience should include a minimum of 3 years in a leadership role.
    • Must have demonstrated a commitment to professional development along with mentoring and coaching of faculty and team members.
  • Licensure
    Must be licensed (or be eligible for medical licensure) in the State of California.

The annual base salary range for this position is $326,000-$400,000. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state, and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.
