- MEDICAL ASSISTANT JOB SUMMARY
- A Medical Assistant provides care to patients of all ages, including pediatrics, adolescents and geriatrics, under the supervision of a physical therapist, physical therapist assistant, speech therapist, occupational therapist, occupational therapist assistant, or nurse practitioner. Must be task-oriented in an arena that can be fast-paced and involve a spectrum of procedures, which require independent set up and/or intervention completion and skilled assistance for pelvic floor, lymphedema, oncology, and wound care patients.
- MEDICAL ASSISTANT JOB SPECIFICATIONS
- Education and/or experience: Two or more years experience in patient care as a Therapy Technician, Medical Assistant, Patient Care Technician, Certified Nursing Assistant, or graduate of a medical assistant program. Wound care experience and certification preferred but not required.
Knowledge: Basic clinical knowledge for taking vitals, assembly of culture or specimens, process for sterilization and management of instruments, safe technique with transport of patients with all assistive devices or wheelchairs, supply inventory management (Kanban training preferred), basic Word and Excel document skills, therapy/medical EMR scheduling competency and general computer/software required.
Skills: Excellent communication skills; must be organized, responsible, motivated and self-directed. Good disposition and able to remain positive under stressful circumstances or wide range of patient interactions. Excellent ability to anticipate clinician or patient needs and independently provide assistance. Strong ability to build rapport with patients, patients' loved ones, and staff. Basic skills such as use of manual or automatic vitals collection, basic Word and Excel document skills, therapy/medical EMR scheduling and information retrieval able, use of Kanban or supply inventory management, retrieval of requested medical documentation to support clinicians.
Abilities: Must be able to multi-task, have outstanding customer service skills (receiving instruction from multiple clinicians in the day) and the ability to problem solve. Strong ability to build rapport with patients, patient's loved ones and staff. Must be able to deal with unpleasant or demanding attitudes in a professional manner. Must be able to remain focused, calm and flexible throughout the day. Ability to teamwork (collaborate and job share) with specialty groups required. Comfortable with computer, phone, email, and text as forms of communication. Able to follow a multi-step process consistently and correctly as well as document the outcomes.
