Job Title: Heat Treat Operator
Department: Heat Treat
Reports To: Production Supervisor
Duties and Responsibilities: Include the following; other duties may be assigned.
  • Quality to the requirements of ARP-1962 and other customer specifications as required
  • Operate vacuum furnaces including freezer and quench tank.
  • Mix and apply Braze Alloy on parts and components.
  • Ensure the calibration stickers for each piece of equipment are current before running.
  • Verify correct tooling to ensure parts are within specifications.
  • Perform visual inspection on braze joints prior to putting in the furnace and after heat treating.
  • Perform Rockwell Inspection on parts or test samples as required.
  • Complete any paperwork associated with their work instructions or job function.
  • Stack parts in baskets, verify cleanliness of parts before loading into oven (tape, oil, marker writing). Verify there is no "metal to metal contact".
  • Observes color of metal and instruments such as voltmeter, ammeter, wattmeter, and pyrometer, and adjusts controls to maintain specified temperature.
  • Records data from each run.
  • Ensure that all preventative maintenance is performed in accordance with PM schedule.
  • Apply braze parts as appropriate for aerospace parts per print.
  • Keep work area clean at all times (6S's)
Education and Experience: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
  • High school diploma or GED; 0-5 years of demonstrated experience for Level 1 Heat Treat Operator, 5 or more years of demonstrated experience for Level 3 Heat Treat Operator.
  • Must be capable of learning how to program computer controls.
  • Manuel dexterity to handle small delicate parts and hand held standard measuring equipment at the same time.
  • Excellent communication and cooperation.
  • Ability to read/understand AHT and VHT processes and procedures.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to read and understand work order instructions and station plans.

Demonstrates the experience of 0-5 years in a position or specialization
  • Vacuum Heat Treat
  • Aluminum Heat Treat
  • Slurry
  • Braze
  • Certifications in the following:
    1. Rockwell
    2. Conductivity
    3. TYS (3 years)
    4. Hotwork
Entry level position with little or no prior relevant work experience
Acquires basic skills to perform routine entry level operator tasks to operate
Work is prescribed and completed with little autonomy
Works with either close supervision or under clearly defined procedures
Level 2
Demonstrates 5 plus years of experience in position or specialization
All Level 1 specialized training in addition to:
  • Aluminum Heat Treat Certification
    1. Pending or attained
  • Vacuum Heat Treat Certification
    1. Pending or attained
Has developed knowledge and skills through training or considerable work experience
Works within established procedures with a moderate degree of supervision
Identifies the problem and all relevant issues in straightforward situations, assesses each using standard procedures, and makes sound decisions.
Must be capable of running the majority of jobs in the department.
