The Safety Specialist coordinates and ensures the implementation of the Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP), conducts health and safety training, investigates injuries and their root causes and recommends corrective action(s), and effectively monitors, tracks, and processes activity related to workers’ compensation (WC) claims management. This role requires a strong presence in all our field and cooler operations.


This role is located at our Santa Maria, California site.


Essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and maintain the Wish Farms CA, Safety program to achieve compliance with all federal, state, and local safety regulatory compliance programs.
  • Conduct and facilitate health and safety training at various site locations to support operations and promote health and safety awareness.
  • Investigate injuries and incidents, identify root causes, determine corrective and/or preventative action and ensure all described actions are completed
  • Perform periodic site inspections and evaluations, annual safety compliance audits, and assist with governmental inspections and third-party audits to include customer social responsibility audits
  • Conduct comprehensive post-injury investigations and due diligence for workers’ compensation (WC) claims
  • Ensure employee training is complete for general safety (CALOSHA) as required by law
  • Performs field and personnel inspections daily to ensure proper compliance
  • Performs regular inspections on all equipment to ensure cleanliness and safety
  • Perform regular hazard assessments at all locations and address any findings in a timely manner
  • Coordinate and conduct training of supervisors/employees on the Injury and Illness Prevention Plan, Emergency Action Plan and Workplace Violence Prevention Plan.
  • Conduct regular meetings with a designated safety committee and document all meetings and trainings, set up and record trainings provided by supervisors to their teams
  • Maintain detailed and organized safety files that are current, readily and accessible at all times
  • Assist with Food Safety Program as needed with policies, documentation and food safety regulations.
  • Other tasks as associated with position and as requested by management




POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bilingual English/Spanish
  • 2 -3 years of experience in safety or food safety in the agricultural industry preferred
  • Demonstrated knowledge of safety concepts specific to California
  • Ability to work with and manage a high level of detailed and confidential information; ability to identify and resolve complex problems
  • Extremely organized individual with effective communication and multi-tasking ability
  • Strong self-structure with demonstrated ability to produce under minimal supervision
  • Valid class “C” California Driver’s license is required and must be insurable
  • CPR/1st Aid Certified
