Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY

As a sales manager, you will be the face of our company. You get to highlight our brand and image while contributing to building our reputation as a company that values its customers and their opinions. You will be directly responsible for assisting customers and helping them recognize the need for our products and services. Must be capable of learning about what we sell and articulating our purpose in a manner that is educational, insightful, and professional. Requirements

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

MANAGEMENT:

  1. Responsible for overseeing all aspects of the Garden Center Division.
  2. Directly supervises all Garden Center sales associates.
  3. Taking responsibility and providing leadership for day-to-day operations within the Garden Center department.
  4. Responsible for scheduling department associates to ensure proper staffing, while staying within budgeted labor guidelines.
  5. Ability to open and close the store when scheduled.
  6. Responsible for training, managing, and scheduling department employees.

CUSTOMER SERVICE:

  1. Proactively engage and make a connection with customers.
  2. Asking questions and listening to customers' needs.
  3. Directing customers to merchandise and informing them about upcoming events, promotions, and mobile offers.
  4. Cooperate and build positive, inclusive, and respectful relationships; take accountability for your own actions and outcomes.

SALES:

  1. Provide attractive and creative displays with proper signage and information for customers, including rotation of seasonal products.
  2. Cross-sell products and know the layout of the store.
  3. Make suggestions to customers on the latest trends and current promotions based on customers' individual needs.
  4. Learn product features, keeping up with the latest trends, leveraging company tools and technology to confidently provide the customer with product knowledge specs.
  5. Use a Point-of-Sales system for processing cash exchanges, discounts, gift cards, credit cards, debit cards, cash handling, including counting money and returning accurate amounts to customers.
  6. Complete various forms of paperwork, reports, and reconciliation.

INVENTORY:

  1. Responsible for managing inventory, sales, labor, and expenses to maintain a profitable department.
  2. Responsible for completing purchase orders and other inventory-related paperwork in a timely manner.
  3. Responsible for monitoring inventory levels for re-ordering from vendors or by communicating with the buyers.
  4. Must be able to unload trucks with incoming product, accurately check in that product, and communicate any overages, shortages, and damages to the buyer.
  5. Responsible for keeping shelves and displays stocked and organized with proper information, meeting customer needs.
  6. Be the keeper of merchandise; complete all inventory processes and ensure merchandise is properly checked in and accurately ticketed.
  7. Manage periodic inventories.

DEPENDABILITY:

  1. Adherence to assigned work schedule.
  2. Accurate and complete follow-through on work assignments.
  3. Other duties as assigned.

WORK HOURS:

  1. Available to work a variety of hours which may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  2. Must be flexible with your scheduling to accommodate customer needs.
  3. Willingness to work overtime as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Experience with retail sales.
  2. Basic all-around knowledge of gardening; including soils, amendments, seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, tools, etc.
  3. Basic computer knowledge and use of Microsoft Office programs.
  4. Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  5. Ability to read, write, and interpret instructional documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  6. Ability to effectively communicate with customers, peers, and management.
  7. Ability to communicate on the telephone with proper etiquette.
  8. Basic math functions such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  9. Ability to multitask while being attentive to customers and remaining flexible to the needs of the business.
  10. Ability to work as part of a team and take initiative independent of direct supervision.
  11. Enthusiastic, friendly, and energetic with a desire to provide outstanding service.
  12. Ability to lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of time, and perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions.
