About the Role:

Slack is hiring a staff data scientist for our AI product team. We are a cross-functional team that is building an AI-powered Slack experience to unlock the collective knowledge of an organization and give new efficiency superpowers to teams.

Responsibilities:

  1. Applying data science methods to understanding the most important aspects of our AI product, users, and business.
  2. Designing new datasets and metrics to be added to our data model.
  3. Evangelizing evidence-based decision making by partnering with key decision makers and driving general accessibility of data and insights.
  4. Identify and drive improvements to the execution of the full Research + Analytics team through standardization of process, authoring new standard methodologies, mentorship and cultivation of new expertise.

Requirements:

  1. 8+ years of professional industry experience doing quantitative analysis.
  2. A related technical degree required.
  3. A consistent record of using data to drive product teams to achieve ambitious goals and influencing company-level outcomes.
  4. Expert SQL and at least one general programming language (e.g. Python).
  5. Experience in schema design, data modeling, and building data pipelines.
  6. Experience with a broad set of statistical and machine learning methods to build descriptive and predictive models.
  7. Experience with designing and testing experiments.
  8. Experience with data technologies that allow effective storage and analysis of large amounts of data (e.g. Spark, Presto, Hive, Hadoop, etc).

Preferred Skills:

  1. Advanced degree (MS, PhD) in a quantitative field (e.g. Computer Science, Economics, Physics) a plus.
  2. Experience with online data systems (e.g. relational databases, logging ingestion).

Compensation:

For California-based roles, the base salary hiring range for this position is $188,200 to $258,700. Compensation offered will be determined by factors such as location, level, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Certain roles may be eligible for incentive compensation, equity, and benefits.
