Senior Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) Manager

The Opportunity

The Senior Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) Manager for Munich Re Specialty - North America serves as the financial advisor and advocate for our organization. This role is an integral part of the Munich Re Specialty’s finance leadership team. The FP&A manager is accountable for advising and supporting strategic and operational decision making through insights that drive better business operating performance. Works with senior leadership as a Liaison to the business segments.

Responsibilities:

Business Unit Reporting and Analysis:

  • Provide proactive insightful analysis about the financial performance of the portfolio to leadership and key stakeholders in the regional and global finance organizations.
  • Facilitate business reviews which provide periodic (i.e. Monthly, quarterly and annual), driver-based analysis of performance with relevant comparison against operational targets and strategic objectives.
  • Drive initiatives to deliver information to support new financial reporting requirements from regional and/or global finance organization (e.g., ESG-related disclosures).
  • Liaison between the shared service areas and the business to assist in determining the impacts of changes in the business and the effect of changes in the organization or on business results.
  • Ensure that team processes and tools support efficient and accurate reporting and analysis of business results. Define FP&A requirements for process and tool enhancements.

Business Partnership and Financial Leadership:

  • Drive expense management discipline for the leadership team. Ensure robust framework for monitoring and managing operating costs, including identification of cost optimization opportunities.
  • Advise business stakeholders in interpreting financial results and reconciling reported financials with KPIs used by management to steer the business.
  • Ensure effective control and oversight of FP&A processes and work products. Ensure team complies with all relevant guidelines and policies.
  • Serve as point person to explain financial reporting and planning practices to regional and global finance stakeholders.
  • Develop financial analysis templates for use in business projects. Partner with business stakeholders to perform cost benefit analyses to support strategic initiatives.
  • Support business units and shared service areas on financial matters as they arise.

Job Requirements:

  • A bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting or Investments or related field is required. Masters degree in Finance / MBA preferred. CPA designation desirable.
  • 7+ years Finance and business industry experience; consulting/advisory experience a plus.
  • 5+ years experience in the insurance industry.
  • 5+ years leadership experience managing cross functional teams and influencing senior management.
  • Strong presentation skills with demonstrated ability to explain technical financial topics to non-technical audiences including top-level company executives.
  • Anticipates needs of the customer and takes a proactive approach to ensure they are met.
  • Solid PC application skills (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
  • Experience using SAP and TM1 reporting applications. Knowledge of FS-RI, EDWH, GPS and CIFYR applications a plus.
  • Strong organization, time management and communication (written and oral) skills.
  • Strong financial acumen and analytical skills.
