About the Position: This position is with the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation and its functions is that of an Evaluator. The Evaluator engages in professional work involving the determination of rehabilitation clients' aptitudes, interests, and abilities to perform certain job tasks by administering standardized tests, conducting interviews, counseling, and providing work samples and tasks developed in the facility. The work is usually performed in a Community Rehabilitation Program's (CRP) workshop. Examples of work performed in this classification include, but are not limited to, the following:• Participates as a team member in pre-admission staffing for discussion and classification of a client's vocational strengths and weaknesses prior to acceptance into the CRP;• Reviews and analyzes available information concerning participants in the CRP;• Orients participants to tests and evaluations to be administered and procedures to be followed;• Administers tests to determine learning capacity, work related aptitudes, limitations, personality and behavioral factors;• Conducts comprehensive evaluations on individuals in training and/or testing environment to determine vocational potential;• Develops and administers personal vocational adjustment training and/or job readiness services to assist individuals in preparing for competitive employment;• Prepares and completes reports, summaries, and forms within restricted time frames;• Counsels with participants on their personal and work related problems;• Assists in development of techniques, procedures, and practices to facilitate improvement of the evaluation program; including the development of new job- sample tests and the design of classes;• Prepares clear and concise reports on observations and conclusions on each client evaluated; presents results and makes recommendations at staffings;• Conducts training classes on a weekly basis;• May conduct progress observations (staffing) and ensures progress is reviewed;• Develops short and long-term goals of the vocational training services by assessing the current interests of the stakeholders and recommending new programs and modifications to current programs;• May assume general responsibilities of the Vocational Training Supervisor in his/her absence;• Performs related or similar duties as required or assigned.
What you'll need to be Successful: A basic understanding of counseling techniques and vocational assessment; Skills in the use of a computer and applicable software; Excellent communication, creativity, problem-solving, evaluation of services and time management skills; Ability to be flexible, handle multiple tasks, maintain a professional demeanor, and show empathy; A willingness to obtain necessary continuing training/education for Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC) certification maintenance; or if not a CRC certificate holder, a willingness to work toward becoming eligible to sit for the CRC examination.
Preferred Qualifications: Typically requires a bachelor's degree and 0-2 years of experience. Hiring agency's preferred qualifications: Master's Degree in Rehabilitation Counseling or closely related area per federal regulations, and/or Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC) certification is preferred. In lieu of a master's degree or CRC, a bachelor's degree in Rehabilitation Counseling or closely related area per federal regulations plus one (1) year experience as demonstrated through paid or unpaid employment in vocational rehabilitation or a closely related field is required.
