Valtir is hiring a Machinist in our Pell City, AL plant!
Under the direction of the maintenance department supervision, this person will install, maintain, and repair plant equipment, tooling, utility services, rolling stock, and physical plant facilities.
Monday - Thursday 6:00AM- 4:30PM
What You'll Do:
Set up and operate a variety of machine tools, fit and assemble parts to fabricate or repair machine tools and maintain industrial machines, apply knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.
  • Repair or replace defective part with new part or reproduced part from various kinds of metal stock, using hand tools, such as scraper, file, drill, and machine tools such as a lathe, milling machine, shaper, borer, and grinder.
  • Observe and listen to operating machines or equipment to diagnose machine malfunction and figure out need for adjustment or repair.
  • Study and interpret blueprints, sketches, machine parts or specifications to decide which type and dimensions of metal stock required.
  • Measure, mark and scribe dimensions and reference points on metal stock surfaces, using such measuring and marking devices as a calibrated ruler, micrometer, caliper, and scriber.
  • Dismantle machine or equipment, using hand tools or power tools, to examine parts for defect or to remove defective part.
  • Assemble and test operate machine to verify correction of malfunction.
  • Maintain and lubricate machine tools and equipment, weld parts, using arc or gas welding equipment.
  • Repair or replace faulty wiring, switches, or relays.
  • Design and build jigs and fixtures as needed.
  • Work scheduled shift hours, including overtime and emergency situations which may occur at night and/or on weekends
  • Use all required safety equipment
  • Complete written maintenance reports and records.
  • Perform general housekeeping procedures such as sweeping, cleanup of spills, organizing work tools and work areas
What You'll Need:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 4 years of experience in maintenance of plant equipment
  • Sophisticated knowledge of electricity, hydraulics, pneumatics, and mechanics with the ability to use this knowledge to install, maintain, and repair plant equipment
  • Ability to weld and flame-cut to perform maintenance functions, as well as the ability to operate machine shop equipment
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills
  • Ability to read, interpret, and apply data derived from shop drawings, technical drawings, wiring diagrams, schematics, and manufacturer's instruction manuals.
  • Ability to use a volt-ohm-meter, and other measuring equipment such as a ruler, calipers, micrometer, and feeler gauges.
  • Ability to perform basic math calculations (add, subtract, multiply, and divide)
  • Ability to operate various electric, pneumatic, and other hand tools
