Job Summary:
Responsible for the proper decontamination, inspection, assembly, and sterilization of surgical instruments. Operates processing equipment and is proficient in instrument decontamination and assembly. Will be aware of the sterilization methods available and which method is appropriate in correlation with the devices that are to be processed.
Key Responsibilities:
• Decontaminate surgical instruments according to manufacturer’s instructions or as advised by the department supervisor or manager.
• Operate decontamination equipment.
• Inspect instruments after decontamination to ensure all items are clean, intact, functional, and accounted for.
• Assemble trays in a manner that ensures device sterility and presents a tray that is easy for the end user to access.
• Use count sheets to ensure trays are assembled accurately.
• Interface with the department tracking system for all functions of processing.
• Package or containerize instrument sets according to manufacturer’s guidelines and standards.
• Load sterilizer carts to ensure packaged items are not punctured or compromised; load containers and wrapped goods as recommended.
• Run daily sterilizer tests on all sterilizers and operate sterilizers according to manufacturer’s instructions, ensuring every load undergoes biological monitoring.
• Document all load contents, interface load to tracking system, load cycle confirming correct parameters, monitor sterilizer to tracking system, and record all pertinent information.
• Unload sterilizers ensuring items are not compromised and store in correct locations according to tracking system storage locations.
• Maintain cleanliness of the department and all processing equipment.
Required Qualifications:
• High School Graduate or Equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications:
• CRCST, CBSPDT, CIS preferred.
Required Work Experience:
• 2+ years work experience in CSPD preferred
Certification: Certified Registered Central Service Technician , Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician , Certified Instrument Specialist
