Role Overview:
As Senior Engineering Manager for the Video team, you would take responsibility for a team that owns the design and implementation of this integral part of our product. Video lies at the heart of the Gather experience, providing a low-latency, seamless foundation for the spontaneous interactions we're known for.
Where you will make an impact:
- Manage, mentor, and grow an extremely talented and energetic engineering team.
- Increase the maximum number of simultaneous videos we can reliably display to 50+.
- Increase the quality of videos we can reliably display to users.
- Increase the maximum size of broadcasts from our current limit of 1-to-200 by forwarding streams between SFUs.
- Support video capabilities across a variety of latency, bandwidth, and other network conditions present on multiple device types across the world.
- Set up metrics to get a better handle on what quality of service our users are experiencing, and to inform further improvements.
- Work cross-functionally to support creation of core functionality including audio and video manipulation and features such as screen recording.
- Ensure the reliability and performance of our video infrastructure through testing and observability initiatives.
What you bring:
- 5+ years of management experience working on large scale video conferencing solutions.
- Experience working on a large scale group video calling platform (e.g. Zoom or Google Meet).
- Experience working with WebRTC, either directly or with libraries that use it.
- Ability to ruthlessly prioritize in a chaotic and ambiguous environment.
- Intrinsic motivation and drive to solve difficult problems without guidance.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Scrappiness, a bias toward action, and a love of moving fast.
