Job Duties
This position is under the Sex Offender Programs & Monitoring Unit at Headquarters. This job location is in Richmond officially, the position will travel toVirginia Center for Behavioral Rehabilitation, Farmville Probation and Parole and Petersburg Probation and Parole.
Position enhances public safety by providing researched and evidenced based supervision and treatment services to probationers transitioning into the community and probationers under probation, parole and Conditional Release supervision with Departmental policies and procedures.
Supervises a specialized caseload of probationers deemed to be Sexually Violent Predators on Conditional Release. Perform investigations, provide case management, and administrative services. This position requires travel throughout the Eastern Region of Virginia.
This is a full-time restricted position. Restricted positions are classified positions with at least 10% of its funding from non-continuous or non-recurring funding sources, such as grants, donations, contracts, capital outlay projects or higher education auxiliary enterprise revenues.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent. Valid driver's license. Completed the required VADOC academy courses for a Sex Offender Supervision Specialist. Considerable experience as a sex offender supervision specialist in a Probation & Parole District. Considerable experience with sex offender treatment methods, social casework, and supervision with sexual probationers. Working knowledge of civil commitment laws and conditional release supervision in the community. Demonstrated experience and competence with GPS installation and monitoring. Demonstrated ability to lead the work of other professional staff. Demonstrated ability to interact with probationers and the public. Demonstrated ability to organize and implement casework services. Demonstrated ability to initiate independent actions and carry out assignments with minimal supervision. Demonstrated ability to intervene in crisis situations. Skilled in interviewing, gathering, and interpreting info to assess needed services and requirements. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing and to develop and maintain good inter-agency relationships. The selected candidate must be able to travel throughout this region to fulfill job requirements.
Additional Considerations
Advanced knowledge of Criminal Justice, Psychology, Criminology, Rehabilitative Counseling, or a related field, Knowledge of Evidenced Based Practices. Experience with polygraph examinations.
