Company Description
Since we opened our doors in 2009, the world of commerce has evolved immensely, and so has Square. After enabling anyone to take payments and never miss a sale, we saw sellers stymied by disparate, outmoded products and tools that wouldn’t work together.
To solve this problem, we expanded into software and built integrated solutions to help sellers sell online, manage inventory, book appointments, engage loyal buyers, and hire and pay staff. Across it all, we’ve embedded financial services tools at the point of sale, so merchants can access a business loan and manage their cash flow in one place. Afterpay furthers our goal to provide omnichannel tools that unlock meaningful value and growth, enabling sellers to capture the next generation shopper, increase order sizes, and compete at a larger scale.
Today, we are a partner to sellers of all sizes – large, enterprise-scale businesses with complex operations, sellers just starting, as well as merchants who began selling with Square and have grown larger over time. As our sellers grow, so do our solutions. There is a massive opportunity in front of us. We’re building a significant, meaningful, and lasting business, and we are helping sellers worldwide do the same.
Job Description
The Subscription Platform Team is responsible for managing all recurring orders for goods and services at Square. This is a big responsibility and requires striking the right balance between feature work needed by our partners, and reliability work to keep our service running efficiently. It requires finding a compromise between developing a simple and consistent platform, while also supporting specific needs that our internal partners need to stay competitive and address their customers' needs. We also own the management dashboard for our sellers and are responsible for all transactional communication related to the subscription lifecycle.
You will:

- Support partner teams who list their products on our platform
- Help lead the design/development of SaaS solutions that are used by internal partners as well as our external merchants

- Work with other engineers and PMs across multiple teams to gather requirements, design, develop, test, launch, and maintain features
- Mentor other engineers and contribute to the direction of the team
- Provide technical expertise and guidance to other engineers (both on our team and outside of our team)
- Help maintain and improve the processes we use to manage our work
- Be on-call for the applications our team owns
You have:
- 8+ years of relevant industry (or additional academic) experience
- Experience with, and a passion for, creating and maintaining a platform used by multiple teams or upstream systems
- Experience with complex distributed systems that require high reliability
- Experience leading complex technical projects, e.g. cross-team programs
- A strong sense of customer empathy and an interest in influencing the direction of the product
- Excellent software engineering knowledge and the ability to provide technical mentorship and guidance
