This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit and is intended to support the communications systems level testing. To further Blue Origin's mission of having millions of people living and working in space, we are building sustainable infrastructure for transporting crew and cargo from Earth to the Lunar Surface. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your commitment and detailed attention toward safe and repeatable space flight.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, build, and integrate electrical/avionics integration hardware, software, and interconnect solutions to support our avionics communications systems.
  • Develop test plans, procedures, and scripts to be executed in standalone and integrated environments.
  • Conduct ad-hoc and formal verification and validation testing.
  • Document test results per program requirements and communicate risks, issues, and solutions to peers with various technical backgrounds and areas of expertise.
  • Perform data interpretation, assessment, and analysis of integrated electrical/avionics systems.
  • Support the integration of vehicle hardware, ground support equipment, operator consoles, and analysis tooling necessary to verify the requirements and performance of units under test within an integrated test environment.
  • Debug and troubleshoot hardware and software issues in a lab environment.
  • Design, develop, and implement lab test tools and software to automate testing processes and improve efficiency.
  • Support integration and test activities including wiring, hardware installation, and test bench setup.
  • Participate in design and system reviews to provide feedback on integration and testability throughout all phases of the project.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to integrate hardware simulation and fault injection solutions with real-time vehicle simulations.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • B.S. in electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, computer science, or related technical discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience working with electronics or electrical/electromechanical systems, including hands-on experience in one or more of the following areas: prototyping, design, integration, and/or test.
  • Understanding of digital, analog, and mixed-signal parts and their use, such as CPUs, FPGAs, microcontrollers, ADCs, DACs, OpAmps, Power Supplies (LDOs, Linear, DC/DC), MOSFETs, LVDS, SPI, I2C, RS422/232, Ethernet, and PCIe.
  • Understanding of safety-critical systems development (aerospace, medical, automotive).
  • Experience integrating and testing vehicle systems.
  • Experience developing special electronic test equipment and troubleshooting equipment.
  • Proficient in the use of standard electronic lab tests and troubleshooting equipment.
  • Desire to work hands-on, both independently and as part of a team, throughout the development and production phases of the mechanical and electronic assembly product lifecycle.
  • Good written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Soldering, PCB rework, crimping, harness/connector assembly.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, national, or U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder) or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
  • RF communication subsystem and/or component design experience, with a strong background in RF principles, specifically UHF and S-band RF for vehicle and ground station development and link.
  • Strong background in planning and defining an RF system, including crafting RF link budgets, performing antenna placement planning, and conducting site tests.
  • Ability to work with multi-functional teams such as mechanical, ground, and operations to partner for the best design implementation solutions.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • M.S. degree in electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, computer science, or related technical discipline.
  • 8+ years of relevant experience.
  • Experience with the development and execution of a large-scale verification of avionics and RF systems on autonomous spaceflight systems.
  • Experience supporting testbeds for spaceflight systems.
  • Experience programming in C++ and/or Python, with Simulink experience.
  • Proven experience in RF design, development, integration, test, and operation of avionics systems or vehicles.

Compensation Range for WA applicants is $136,800.00-$191,520.00.
