Marana High School POSITION SUMMARY
The Academic Advisor works closely with classroom teachers to assign classes and monitor academic progress. The Academic Advisor supports teachers in monitoring student progress of all students. This position is responsible for facilitating regular meetings with teachers to discuss and implement academic interventions and to monitor and evaluate student progress.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Works cooperatively and maintains effective relationships with students, parents, district personnel and the general public.
  • Responds with tact and courtesy in public or telephone contact situations and provides information requiring a knowledge of state and county education laws, board policies, district procedures and general educational information pertaining to the school.
  • Separates those items that are of a confidential nature from those that are not
  • As assigned by Advisor category items:
    • College testing, e.g., PSAT, ACT, SAT, ASVAB
    • Career
    • Assisting with peer helpers
    • Scholarships and college admission
    • Financial aid
    • Drop out prevention
    • Peer helpers
    • EL Liaison
  • Promote the mission and vision of the Marana Unified School District and assigned site within the school and community
  • Evaluates transcripts of all new students
  • Facilitates class scheduling of new students
  • Facilitates placement testing for new students
  • Maintains waiting lists and files
  • Coordinates records requests in support of the Registrar Instructional support
  • Collaborate with counselors, principal, attendance and discipline coordinator and registrar to monitor students progress
  • Proactively works with students in post-secondary planning
  • Works closely with Seniors to facilitate completion of graduation requirements
  • Communicates with other schools and agencies on behalf of students
  • Acts as liaison and facilitates transition to post-secondary activities, including schooling, military, and vocational
  • Notify administration and registrar of changes in a student homelessness status
  • Refers students/parents to appropriate community service agencies as needed
  • Maintains records in student management system documenting progress and interventions
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of college admissions requirement and ability to apply assistance to students in doing so
  • Skill in oral and written communications
  • Skill in student surveys, evaluations administration and scores implementation

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Social Work or related field
  • Minimum one year experience working with teenagers, preferably in a school setting
  • Previous experience working with transcripts
  • Demonstrated ability in inter-agency collaboration and networking
  • Valid Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
  • Any equivalent combination of experience, training, or education

Salary: (Pro-rated based start date)
$39,879.00 - 44,040.00
***9 Month Exempt Yearend Position
