Reports to: Board of Directors of Harbor Linx

The Real Estate and M&A role spans a broad and varied set of skills, abilities, qualities, and characteristics, from strategic thinking and high-level financial acumen to an understanding of the construction industry, real estate development as well as experience with mergers and acquisitions. It is critical for the person in this role to develop and maintain excellent external relationships and a network of industry contacts. He/she must also have a willingness to work collaboratively and supportively with the subsidiaries of Harbor Linx.

Mission and Culture

  • Understands and embraces the purpose in providing long-term financial stability to Harbor Linx subsidiaries and create stability and financial wellbeing for its people by diversifying, leveraging, and growing company assets through savvy real estate endeavors and strategic acquisitions.
  • Promote McGuire and Hester as the contractor of choice for internal real estate developments when possible.
  • Possesses a comprehensive understanding of sophisticated real estate development models and is able to evaluate them. Can analyze and assess risks through asking the right questions. Can bring to light and evaluate the important details of a potential deal. Is able to make informed go/no-go recommendations and decisions. Understands the value of diversification in making informed investment decisions.
  • Has the skill set to understand all stages of a real estate development from site research and analysis, land acquisition, entitlements, soft and hard construction costs budgets, plans and specifications, including exit strategy.
  • Develops and maintains key partnerships and relationships with developers, contractors, lenders, investors, and other real estate experts; inspires trust and confidence; keeps partners and clients informed and confirms their satisfaction in shared endeavors.
  • Visionary, able to think outside the box, see opportunity where others do not. Establishes a focus and direction so that efforts are aligned and synergistic. Develops plans to achieve the vision.

Mergers and Acquisitions

  • Understands and has deep experience with mergers and acquisitions, especially within the construction industry.
  • Develops an acquisition strategy revolving around viable new markets and revenue streams. Analyzes markets and industries for potential merger and acquisition targets. Has an eye for what businesses complement each other so that the portfolio is balanced in times of economic distress.
  • Has a deep knowledge of financials and can accurately assess the potential of a given acquisition candidate through financial information; knows the right questions to ask to assess fitness of an acquisition candidate. Understands the scope of due diligence needed to make strategic acquisitions.
  • Has a high tolerance for complexity and can bring the close attention to detail required to carry out successful due diligence and acquisitions.
  • Knows how to create rapport and build trust with sellers and business partners so both sides are comfortable with the merger or acquisition.
  • Willing to take calculated chances that align with and logically extend from the historical base in construction, including vertical integration.
  • Inspires teams to work together to ensure successful integration of the companies.

Strategic Thinking and Planning

  • Can understand and stay on top of real estate trends in Northern California and other areas of strategic growth to Harbor Linx and related subsidiaries providing guidance on potential purchases and sales.
  • Visionary, able to think outside the box, see opportunity where others do not. Establishes a focus and direction so that efforts are aligned and synergistic. Develops plans to achieve the vision.

Business Acumen and Management Skills

  • Has business acumen and knows the basics of how to run a business.
  • Understands where Circa ’26 lies in relation to the other subsidiaries of Harbor Linx. Has basic familiarity with each business – what it is, what it does, how each figures in the Harbor Linx structure and how they support its purpose.
  • Understands the ESOP and the relationship that this role has to the ESOP’s health and longevity by investing for the long term success while keeping appropriate liquidity for ESOP repurchase obligations. Supports the ESOP.
  • As appropriate, can build a team to expand capacity to find and research potential M&A deals and/or carry out real-estate related activities of the Company.
