We’re searching for a Software Engineer to join the Motion Planning Infrastructure Team to develop motion planning projects in areas including, but not limited to, algorithm integration frameworks, fault management, engineering and learned model frameworks, state management and bootstrapping. The Motion Planning Infrastructure team is responsible for the software that Aurora’s core motion planning algorithms integrate into. Team scope includes integration into the on-vehicle software framework, latency monitoring and architecture optimization, software quality, internal and external interfaces & data structures for the planner, world representation, route planning, and specialized tools for motion planning developers.

In this role, you will

  1. Improve the framework that the MP algorithms integrate into to reduce boilerplate, improve flexibility & composability, and improve testability
  2. Reduce frequency of MP software faults and improve automation used to categorize detected issues
  3. Improve the MP’s world representation and encoding to support both learned and engineered approaches
  4. Simplify MP internal state management and bootstrapping

Required Qualifications

  1. Computer Science degree or related
  2. 3+ years of industry experience in software engineering
  3. Strong C++ Coding (all on-board code is in C++)
  4. Excellent software engineering skills (Data Oriented Programming style)
  5. Experience working with robotics
  6. Experience working on distributed/asynchronous systems
  7. Initiative to surface blockers without being stuck for too long
  8. Ability to collaborate with others on design and implementation
  9. Strong organization skills to estimate and deliver work on schedule

Desirable Qualifications

  1. Python Coding (strong preference, not required)
  2. MP background would be ideal (since it’s more robot planning focused)

The base salary range for this position is $144K-$216K per year. Aurora’s pay ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, the successful candidate’s starting base pay will be determined based on factors including job-related skills, experience, qualifications, relevant education or training, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future. The successful candidate will also be eligible for an annual bonus, equity compensation, and benefits.
