As a Senior Software Engineer - Windows Reach on the Windows team, you will have the opportunity to create, invent, and change the world through software. You will be part of a team that is responsible for delivering software that is constantly updating, running at hyper-scale, and meeting the demands of a rapidly evolving industry. The Reach team’s goal is to deliver value to all our millions of users to increase user retention and attachment to our services.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to impact millions of daily Windows users via the features you build and ship to our millions of user base. You will have the opportunity to impact your fellow engineers via the tooling and infrastructure you build to enable us to ship rapidly with quality. We will use the right tool for the right problem including AI/Small Language Models (SLM) and Large Language Models (LLM) to improve engineering flows and experiences.

We are looking for data-driven and customer-obsessed engineers who like the challenge of working on features that span the entire development stack across Windows OS, the Web, and our infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Works with stakeholders to determine user requirements for a set of features.
  • Contributes to the identification of dependencies, and the development of design documents for a product area with little oversight.
  • Participate in design and code reviews, share proven practices, and contribute to fostering engineering excellence culture.
  • Take ownership of assigned problem space, collaborate with team members, stakeholders and engineering partner teams to drive clarity for requirement and the problem to solve.
  • Contribute to the success of others by sharing your work and ideas.
  • Contribute to improving our technology and development practices via retrospectives and other means, with the goal of continuous improvement of quality and team efficiency.
  • Mentor and develop engineers across all levels through sharing and learning.
  • Perform data-driven feature rollout, monitor telemetry to understand the feature health and customer impact.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
  • OR equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in design, development and running scalable platforms.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
  • 3+ years of experience with Windows Development and Windows Debugging.
  • Ability to work in and across multiple domains, technologies, and situations.
  • Proficient communication and collaboration skills.
  • Experience building and shipping production grade software or services.
  • A deep desire to work collaboratively, solve problems with the group and find win/win solutions.

Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $112,000 - $218,400 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $145,800 - $238,600 per year.
