We are looking for smart systems software engineers with BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science to join the Exadata Team @ Oracle Server Technologies to work on Automatic Storage Management (ASM). Oracle Exadata technology is the newest innovation in Oracle's history as the provider of the industry's number one database technology. Exadata group (Server Technologies Division) is responsible for the development of all aspects of the Exadata Storage Server and Exadata Database Machine which is named as Oracle’s most successful new product. Oracle Exadata technology powers the highest performance Oracle Database Cloud service.
We design, develop, troubleshoot, and debug software for databases, storage systems, applications, tools, network, etc. As a member of the software engineering division, you will take an active role in the definition and evolution of standard practices and procedures. You will be responsible for defining and developing software for tasks associated with the developing, designing and debugging of software applications or operating systems. Work is non-routine and very complex, involving the application of advanced technical/business skills in area of specialization. Leading contributor individually and as a team member, providing direction and mentoring to others. BS or MS degree or equivalent experience relevant to functional area. 7 years of software engineering or related experience.
Team and Product Description:
Our group, Automatic Storage Management (aka ASM), is responsible for building highly available, scalable, and efficient tools to solve customers' storage problems. ASM is a central part of the Oracle Database's storage strategy. While it is versatile enough to run with any physical storage backend, ASM is also the key storage solution that enables the database to run in engineered systems such as the Exadata Database Machine and the Oracle Database Appliance (ODA).
The primary focus of the ASM group is to solve storage management problems and improve data availability. As a member of this team, you will participate in the research, design, and implementation of the core components of the ASM infrastructure.
Qualifications:
- Degree level (BS/MS/PhD): Bachelors/Masters/PhD
- Major(s): Computer Science/Electrical Engineering
- Preferred coursework: Computer System, Algorithm, Parallel Programming
- Excellent C, C++ programming skills
- Development experience on Linux
- Debugging and troubleshooting skills
- Familiarity with the classes of storage architectures that are currently available.
- Demonstrated experience in the area of storage systems programming for example file systems or volume managers.
- Ability to debug complex systems problems; strong motivation or background to work on parallel and distributed algorithms to scale systems.
- Must reside in or around the Redwood City, CA area.
