Burns & McDonnell is looking for a Food Ingredients & Agribusiness Industry Leader that will be responsible for helping drive the strategic growth of this market. This person will focus on building a team with deep process technology technical expertise in both engineering & construction, managing early FEL phases of key projects, and developing a robust client portfolio across the Food Ingredients & Agribusiness industry. In general, this individual will grow the firm’s national design-build brand in the chosen space. This position is a combination of market leadership, project management, process technology leadership and overall business segment accountability, which includes helping to grow the segment in a dynamic and profitable manner based on Burns & McDonnell’s core values of client satisfaction, commitment, dedication, integrity, safety, and overall outstanding service.
Specific areas of responsibility include the following:
Market Leadership:
- Development of new clients and management of existing clients as required.
- Manage client-focused strategies and action plans that respond to client challenges and issues and create a competitive advantage for the firm to obtain the work successfully.
- Identify project opportunities early and facilitate go/no-go decisions in cooperation with the division national practice strategy. Lead or assist development of proposals and presentations. Engage with marketing team as necessary.
- Develop relationships with other consultants, equipment suppliers and contractors to build possible teaming arrangements for large pursuits.
- Assist in the development and organization of a focused sales approach strategy.
- Assist in contract and negotiations process for projects after selection.
- Lead the development of a long-term strategic plan for growth and sustainability of the business.
- Enhance the organization's reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests, exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
- Manage new, non-traditional and compelling solutions to a customer's stated project scope of work to differentiate Burns & McDonnell.
- Identify synergies internal to the Burns & McDonnell organization in other Global Practices and Regional Offices. Develop relationships to leverage one another's skills, abilities, and client contacts to further the marketing effort in GFS.
- Lead in recruitment, development, training and retention of staff.
Process Technology Leadership:
- Manage the technical direction, work assignments, and mentoring to other engineers as assigned to support the process engineering efforts of major process facility projects.
- Manage client and team relationships on multiple assigned projects to help ensure that the process design basis is technically sound and meets the client project objectives.
- Provide technical oversight of assigned projects from early Front-End Planning (FEP) through detail design and construction.
- Plan, organize and direct the execution of feasibility studies, technology evaluations, and conceptual designs as required to support client projects or initiatives.
- Actively maintain current knowledge and understanding of market trends, and technologies. Provide periodic updates to division management in support of strategic initiatives, as well as marketing and sales efforts.
- Establish and maintain relationships with prospective and existing clients.
- Identify opportunities and support business development efforts to prepare submittals, proposals, presentations, contract negotiations, and related activities.
- Provide technical leadership and representation of the company through active participation in conferences and technical seminars, including activities such as writing papers, delivering presentations and/or supporting conference marketing initiatives and events.
- Coach and mentor sales pursuits and proposal development teams.
- Mentor project staff by providing guidance, instructions and expert level technical advice.
- Manage and support the quality review process for assigned projects, including the feasibility or soundness of proposed plans.
Project Management:
- Provide leadership and guidance of all aspects of multi-discipline engineering projects during Feasibility and Conceptual phases of Front-End Planning (FEP 1 and 2), including safety, quality, engineering, procurement, construction, environmental compliance, project controls, and public/community relations.
- Manage all aspects of project communication.
- Lead the Project Management team in administering request for proposal (RFP) package development, bid and selection process, and scope of work documents.
- Develop and monitor project schedules, manage scope, and control project costs.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for Food Ingredients & Agribusiness clients regarding efforts such as client coordination, strategic planning, master scope management, budget finances, subcontracting, project staffing, environmental compliance, facility support and schedule attainment.
- Manage and approve internal and external reports, providing detailed, accurate project cost forecasts and accruals to client(s) and Global Practice leadership as required.
- Responsible for generating new business revenue by developing new client relationships or leveraging existing client relationships.
- Adhere to Burns & McDonnell’s safety programs, trainings, and policies, as well as promote and manage the safety and health performance of project team members and subconsultants / contractors.
- Participate in and attend industry-associated conferences and/or committees.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or related field from an accredited curriculum. Masters Degree preferred.
- Minimum of 13 years experience, 20 preferred, managing projects and operating manufacturing facilities in the Food Ingredients & Agribusiness industry.
- Experience leading Front End Planning, detailed design and construction on process facility projects preferred.
- Well versed in process industry design concepts and best practices.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and manage work plans, schedules and budgets, and provide leadership to a diverse project team.
- Ability to develop business with new clients.
- Strong network with Equipment Suppliers, Consultants, Contractors and Clients in the Food Ingredients & Agribusiness industry.
- Flexibility to travel 50% of the time.
- Familiarity with design-build contracting methodology.
- Experienced in contract negotiation.
- Ability to quickly build long-term connections with internal and external clients. Ability to work in and coordinate across a national practice.
- Must carry strong interpersonal and communication skills and display a positive can-do attitude both internally and externally.
- Must have the ability to clearly and effectively present complex information to all levels of employees, management and clients.
- Strong facilitation, collaboration, organization, analytical and problem solving skills.
