Job Requirements / Description

- Maintains standards set forth in the YMCA of the USA Aquatic guidelines.
- Conducts aquatic safety audits at all facilities. Evaluates performance and works with staff to develop post-audit improvement plans and, when necessary, recommends appropriate corrective action.
- Plans and assists in facilitating Lifeguard in-services or trainings as needed to ensure efficiency of their Emergency Action Plan.
- Assesses Association-wide aquatic training needs to identify trainers and to ensure appropriate trainings are conducted.
- Oversees lifeguard certifications, instructor and lifeguard classes, and the Authorized Provider Agreement with The American Red Cross.
- Trains and certifies American Red Cross and YMCA certifications as needed.
- Assists in the hiring and training of new Aquatics Directors and serves as a mentor as they enter their new position.
- Works with the center directors and Association Marketing Department for aquatics program updates.
- Leads the Aquatics Innovation Team in assessing, creating, and developing organizational strategies.
- Provides leadership and strategy development for large-scale aquatics events and initiatives throughout the organization.
- Compiles and reports on program statistics and finances for the organization, to ensure we are meeting association goals.
- Develops, evaluates, and makes necessary changes to both the YMCA’s competitive swim and instructional program, as needed.
- Responsible for ensuring program goals are in line with aquatics safety standards set forth by the association and YMCA of the USA.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in recreation, aquatics, social sciences, or a related field, and three years experience managing an aquatics environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Passionate belief in the Y’s cause of nurturing the potential of all youth, supporting healthy living for all people and finding ways to help and support our neighbors.
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
- Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet and database programs.
- Proven track record of developing authentic relationships with others.
- Ability to foster a collaborative team approach to solving challenging situations.
- YMCA Multiteam/Branch certification; if not certified, must obtain certification within 12 months.
Training Requirements:
- Immediately upon hire: lifeguarding certification (ARC); American Red Cross First Aid & CPR for Professional Rescuer; AED, O2 and state-mandated concussion training.
- Within 6 months of hire: YSL, LGI, LGIT (ARC).
- Within 1 year of hire: become YSL Trainer & CPO.
- Within 2 years of hire: become trainer level in another aquatics area, Principles of Swimming and Diving, Swim.
The Association Executive Director of Aquatics will be responsible for developing strategy and coordinating efforts among the aquatic leaders to ensure high quality, member-focused YMCA aquatic programs. Ensures pool safety, cleanliness, and training standards are met and aligned with YMCA of the USA, YMCA of Central Ohio, and the State of Ohio rules and recommendations. The incumbent facilitates efforts to assess current aquatic strategies, processes and procedures, quality and satisfaction, and defines measurable gaps that exist between the current reality and desired future as a cause-driven Y.
