About KIWA: KIWA is a multiracial worker center, with roots in the Korean progressive movement. Founded in 1992 in Koreatown, Los Angeles, the mission of KIWA is to build the power of immigrant workers and residents and to organize a progressive grassroots leadership to transform our workplaces and communities, in Koreatown and beyond. KIWA has achieved victories in the restaurant and market industries and shaped the culture of work in Koreatown. We engage in policy campaigns, affordable housing advocacy, workplace campaigns, and worker- and tenant services in Spanish, Korean, and English. We are a membership-based organization open to all with a mostly Latinx and Korean base. Community organizing and community leadership development are central to our work and key to our vision for a more just society. We work in the areas of workers' rights and workplace justice, tenants' rights and affordable housing, and cultural resistance. Overview:
We are seeking dynamic individuals to work as part of a team dedicated to a more just, verdant, and livable neighborhood. This November, Los Angeles and California voters will have an opportunity to pass Measure A and Proposition 5, ballot measures that support housing and homelessness services in our communities. KIWA Program Associates are the front line in getting information to voters on these measures and how it will address housing insecurity and homelessness. This position requires punctuality, teamwork, courage, and a commitment to housing justice.
Job Duties
- Canvass residential neighborhoods to encourage registered voters to support the November ballot initiatives
- Attend canvasser orientation and ongoing trainings
- Conduct outreach via phone and text message banking
- Attend trainings to ensure program deliverables are consistently met or exceeded
- Collect contact information for future outreach efforts
- Must be able to use a cellphone, laptop, zoom, web browser and canvassing application.
- Team members must use their own smartphone for outreach.
- Canvassers must be prepared to work in all types of weather, complete light physical activities such as standing or walking for long periods of time and be able to carry up to 10 pounds.

- Bilingual English and Spanish or English and Korean highly preferred
- Having a valid driver's license, proof of insurance and reliable transportation is preferred.
Employment Status: At-will, non-exempt
Period: September 11 - November 5, 2024
Salary Information: $24-$26 hour
Work Schedule: Sunday - Thursday, 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Up to 25 hours/week. Extra hours as approved by supervisor only.
