Job Description And Duties
The California Department of Social Services (CDSS) Legal Division is recruiting to fill one permanent, full-time Legal Analyst/Legal Assistant position in its Community Care Licensing (CCL) Enforcement Branch, Sacramento Unit. The office location for this position is Sacramento.

Except when required to report to the office, this position allows for telework at an alternative work location. An alternative work location would be the employee’s residence. For travel purposes, reimbursement would be based on the office location.

The Legal Analyst/Assistant provides paralegal support to the attorneys in the Legal Division. Duties include drafting pleadings on legal enforcement issues; preparing discovery; drafting settlement agreements; analyzing statutory and case law; preparing witness and exhibit binders; and performing other work associated with trial preparation as needed. Must be able to analyze accurately and write effectively, and able to work cooperatively with legal staff, licensing staff, law enforcement and protective agencies, and the public. Occasional travel for hearings and/or to meet with clients and witnesses is required.

Minimum Qualifications

LEGAL ANALYST MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Either I
Experience: Two years of experience in the California state service performing the duties of a Legal Assistant. (Applicants who are within six months of satisfying the experience requirement for this class will be admitted to the examination, but they must fully meet the experience requirement before being eligible for appointment.) AND Education: Successful completion of six semester units of paralegal or undergraduate legal courses, with at least three units of which must be in legal research.

Or II
Experience: Two years of experience performing paralegal duties in a law firm, corporate law office, governmental or public law office, nonprofit organization, educational institution, court, or other entity under the direction and supervision of a licensed attorney or judicial officer. AND Education: Twelve semester units in a legal or paralegal curriculum or equivalent to graduation from college.

LEGAL ASSISTANT MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Successful completion of six semester units of paralegal or undergraduate legal courses, with at least three units of which must be in legal research. AND
Either I
Experience: Two years of experience in the California state service as a Senior Legal Typist, Range B; Legal Secretary, or other classification with law-related duties, involving the review, preparation, or interpretation of legal documents or involving the conduct of investigations or studies leading to legal actions.

Or II
Experience: Three years of responsible experience as a law clerk or legal secretary in a law firm, corporate law office, governmental or public law office, non-profit organization, educational institution, court, or other entity under the direction and supervision of a licensed attorney or judicial officer.
