The Arts Program Director advances the COMPAS mission by providing program leadership and direction of the COMPAS Arts Programs, including the Creative Classroom (schools, summer enrichment programs, etc.), while supervising all other COMPAS arts programs. They are also responsible for creating the annual COMPAS anthology and celebration. They create a COMPAS-wide evaluation system and lead the CRM database implementation and enhancements. The Director works in partnership with and reports directly to the Executive Director and collaborates with the Director of Strategic Development and Marketing and Communications Director while supervising the program team. They supervise the Arts Program and Content Manager, the Arts Program Managers, and others as hired or as positions are developed.
Key Area 1: Leads Program Team Strategy and Marketing
· Provides general program philosophy and “big picture” priorities for arts education programs
· Designs and plans future (2-3 years) program strategies that are in concert with board and community priorities
· Supervises Creative Community Program Managers and the Arts Program and Development Coordinator. Supervises or delegates the management of Youth Arts Programs and/or the Women's Writing Program as well as other programs as developed
· Stays aware and responsive to changing societal and community conditions that will spark creative and responsive programming
· Uses board-approved policies and frameworks to shape COMPAS program direction
Key Area 2: Enhances and maintains a broad and responsive teaching artist roster
· Leads the process for adding to the teaching artist roster and ensures diversity of artists and art forms. Continuously on the lookout for additional artists as community and site needs change
· Manages, supports, and integrates new teaching artists; maximizes the art experience of site managers and participants; encourages artists; recognizes and communicates positive situations and problem-solves situations as required
· Advises teaching artists (or supervises the advising) on their program offerings and website profile so that it stays relevant (meeting community interest and program objectives)
· Oversees annual updates to the Roster handbook, COMPAS site contracts and coordinates program list pricing sheets
Key Area 3: Manages Creative Classroom Program area
· Directs Creative Classroom programs (including summer and out-of-school time programs in schools) and oversees the Emerging Young Artists program as a part of Creative Classroom
· Designs and manages residences or workshops within the direct program area
· Collates program mission, plans, SWOT analysis, value proposition, etc., into a business plan
· Identifies community, institutional, partner, and site needs to enhance an effective program
· Serves as the primary liaison between COMPAS staff, teaching artists, and teachers/site administrators for program area
· Oversees annual COMPAS Anthology production creation and Anthology celebration
· Oversees administrative program document processes and annual updates (eg, teaching artist payments, annual contract renewals, etc.)
· Promotes program and collaborates on marketing and communication strategies. Partners with appropriate staff on marketing and communication strategies for program expansion
· Determine the viability of educator/administrator training sessions
· Determine the need for an educator advisory committee and/or the use of educator partners in program enhancements and disseminate feedback within COMPAS.
· Works with partners to craft and submit their own successful grant proposals, resulting in increased earned revenue
Key Area 4: Manages program team and infrastructure
· Designs and manages program budget. Ensures program and revenue goals are met
· Analyzes evaluation data and reviews program artists' evaluations. Uses to maximize program quality and site participants' experience. Creates reports to share with COMPAS constituents
· Partners with ED on hires. Supervises and evaluates staff, including contractors, interns, and volunteers
· Works with development staff to secure funding. Provides accurate and timely reporting data on program results and issues
· Represents COMPAS with local, regional, and national peers and educational partners
· Collaborates with executive director, board members, volunteers, and key constituents on program understanding and expansions
Key Area 5: Leads COMPAS-wide infrastructure, enhancements, and culture
· Supports the board and executive director in developing, maintaining, and enhancing an effective organization that is resilient, cohesive, and responsive
· Participates in and supports strategic planning processes that set the future course of COMPAS
· Uses expertise to lead evaluation collating. Creates, standardizes, and enhances evaluation methods across program areas. Continuously improves process and percentage of participation
· Works closely with the Director of Strategic Development to ensure goals and outcomes are in alignment with funding and that data is being collected, is meaningful, and collated for analysis
· Leads Salesforce implementation, enhancements, and report writing. Trains others effectively
· Collaborates with leadership and/or development team on possible enhancements for fund development and finance systems connected to Salesforce
· Ensure Salesforce data entry can be used across COMPAS and is consistent by furthering the development and use of SOPs

Desired Education and Experience
· Bachelor's degree with at least five years of arts education program management experience. Or
· Bachelor's degree with at least five years of experience with the combination of a teaching artist, arts program administrator, and a K-12 teacher. Or
· Master's degree with four years of arts management with experience as a teaching artist preferred.
· In-depth knowledge of educational settings and the needs of K-12 students is critical. Experience with planning and implementing programs for under-resourced or marginalized students of all ages is required.
· Knowledge of MDE educational standards is preferred.
· Experience as an entrepreneur is welcome, not required.

· Comfort with various technologies, including meeting platforms and social media. Comfort in working with educational platforms that vary widely across site partners or ability to learn technology applications readily.
· CRM database proficiency.
Physical Job Requirements
· Work happens in a professional COMPAS main office environment, a virtual home office and/or occasional event or community sites (occasionally, these can be outdoors).
· Occasional local, statewide, or national travel can be associated with this role.
· This role routinely uses standard office equipment, including a laptop computer, printer, and phone.
· The employee is generally required to spend long periods on the phone, sitting, typing, and working at a computer, and a variable stand-up desk is provided when in the main office.
· May require the ability to occasionally lift and carry 10 – 20 lbs., including purchasing and/or transporting items (eg, supplies, computers, tents, signboards, totes) to and from sites and locations.
· COMPAS' regular office hours are 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday. This position could require some early morning and evening hours and occasional weekend hours, especially related to meetings, events, and meeting deadlines.
